New tee shirts are in at the “Country” Store located in the Floral City Heritage Hall Museum. The popular “Avenue of Oaks” line-drawing design is featured in fashionable colors such as indigo blue, prairie dust, heather red, serene green and Vegas gold. A supply of youth sizes are available to start school. Full color prints have also been reprinted of the “Historic Oaks’ painting by artist Anita Roy and of the folk art painting “Heritage Days” by Polly Bernard and are available in the “Country“ Store. A number of the black Osceola design full color tee shirts are still available. Anticipating colder months, the oval design of the “Avenue of Oaks” has been reprinted on sweat shirts and are now in stock. Colors include navy, forest green, chocolate and maroon and all are in the heavy blend cotton.

The bookshelves of the store have been restocked with a wide range of books pertaining to local and state history and related subjects. A selection of these are from the Florida History Press. A wooden red wagon contains a new venture: “Once Read Now Shared” books. One may receive a $3.00 Store credit after purchasing the book, gently reading it and then returned it with the card inside.

The old pie safe still displays a good variety of Watkins brand spices and herbs, local orange and wildflower honey, and glass bottles of root beer and cream soda. Also, found there is the popular and effective air spray by Citrus Mate in orange, lemon and cinnamon scents.

Two of the wall shelves have been cleared to make room for an interesting selection of vintage and handmade baskets, recently donated for sale. Some are made of pine needle and others are of a variety of basket materials and designs.

Until the Ferris Store opens in October, one may purchase their reproduced Ferris Grove juice glasses in the Floral City Museum Store. These and other citrus and berry items are offered as a compliment to the return of the much requested exhibit in the Museum: “The Ferris Years: From...

POPULAR EXHIBIT RETURNS: “THE FERRIS YEARS”

“The Ferris Years: From Citrus Groves and Ferris Wheels To Livestock and Berry Fields” has returned to the Floral City Heritage Hall Museum by popular demand. When first exhibited in December of 2010, there was much interest and many compliments on the Ferris 75 year anniversary exhibit, a collaboration between the Floral City Heritage Council and Ferris Farms, Inc.

The flamboyant, “Doc” Ferris is well portrayed in photo, story and artifact. The plasma screen provides the visitor an opportunity to view over 60 additional photos. In the Library/Media Area the visitor may comfortably watch an interview with the first Ferris Store manager, Caroline “Midge” Johnson as she unravels the tale of the initial Ferris Years. “Doc’s” pool table, hats and other memorabilia can be viewed in the exhibit gallery.

In the Museum “Country” Store duplicates of the original orange juice glasses are available as are the colorful Ferris Grove packing-label printed on tee shirts. Other items coordinating with the Citrus exhibit can be found there too such as wooden lemon reamers, grapefruit spoons, Orange Honey with wooden honey dippers, chewy orange jelly candy and tin-toy Ferris Wheels to name a few items.

Heritage Hall Museum and Museum “Country” Store are open every Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is located at the corner of Orange Ave./CR48 and Old Floral City Road in the new Town Center. For more information visit our web site at
