Indiana Wing Officers for 2017: Wing Leader - Bruce Cooper Executive Officer - Rick Brewer Adjutant - Greg Peterson Operations Officer - Steve Fryman Finance Officer - Jerry Long Maintenance Officer - Mark Van Zant Safety Officer - Rich Quinnette

The Indiana Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is a flying museum that maintains and flys a 1943 Beech SNB (RC-45J) "Kansan", 1944 Fairchild PT-26 "Cornell" and a 1943 Taylorcraft L-2A "Grasshopper". The Indiana Wing is based at Metropolitan Airport (UMP), which is located off 96th St, between Allisonville and I-69 in Fishers, Indiana.

Mission: The CAF was founded to acquire, restore and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States, and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans. More than just a collection of airworthy warplanes from the past, the CAF's fleet of historic aircraft, known as the CAF Ghost Squadron, recreate, remind and reinforce the lessons learned from the defining moments in American military aviation history.

On 75th anniversary of D-Day, remembering the Army's first jumping chaplain

US Army Chaplain Raymond Hall, who volunteered to parachute out of the C-47 “That’s All Brother” into Normandy, France just after midnight on D-Day. Though much older, he wanted to be with the airborne soldiers he ministered to. Such men and women are the reason the volunteers and donors of the Commemorative Air Force do what we do to Educate, Honor, and Inspire through Flight.

We are EXCITED to announce Indy Comedienne Susan Bennet as our Emcee for this year's Hops N Props evening event June 22nd. SAVE BIG by purchasing advance online tickets at http://www.wingsoverindy.com/hops-n-props.html

SUSAN BENNETT is an actress and comedienne hailing from Indianapolis. She has performed three original one-woman shows at Fringe festivals in Indy and Atlanta--I said NO in 2013, Simply Complicated in 2014, and The Juniper Tree in 2016—and many other venues across the country, from coffee shops to school auditoriums. In 2017, the feature film My Friend Dahmer hit theaters and she was quite pleased to see her role wasn’t edited out. Susan has acted in various regional commercials, lent her voice to radio, and her body to print ads.

Her grandest role by far, though, has been acting like a mom for the past 30 years raising five beautiful daughters, where her drama degree from IU came in quite handy. Now an empty-nester, Susan surrounds herself with her favorite passions—dining out, her grandchildren, dabbling in triathlons, and running after her dream to perform with renewed purpose and inspiration.

All Proceeds go to help support the Commemorative Air Force Indiana Wing and it's Mission. Thank you for your Continual Support.

Indiana Wing CAF C-45/SNB comes to life after a few years of work by volunteers to breath new life into the WWII warbird the started life as an Army Air Corps AT-11 and later served as a USN photo reconnaissance trainer.

For the first time in almost two years, the C-45 nicknamed "BOB" (Big Oily Beast), belonging to the Indiana Wing of the CAF, was pulled out of the hangar, and fired up on a test run. Overhauled props, major engine work, completely recovered and hung control surfaces, panel work, cable work, floorboard work, and more. But yesterday it came alive, belching and popping and dripping and complaining just like a radial will, but it finally came alive and started purring. Welcome back, BOB!!

Some nice progress on BOB!

It was a busy work day on BOB (C-45) today! Jerry, Wayne, Greg, Nathan, and Laura spent most of the day working on several projects. For one, the control surfaces are on! The ailerons have been hung and secured, the aileron trim tab, and the flaps as well. It was a good, productive day, and BOB is even closer to its first running!

Wrapped up the PT-26 annual today with an engine warm up run for compression checks. This saga started last fall after we had a control arm break on the rudder. Had to strip the fabric, repair the rudder structure, recover, and paint. Used the time waiting on the rudder to do a rebuild of the main gear strut seals and other improvements / upgrades.

Notice the oil that is not on the hanger floor after we ran it! We Have been making steady progress on oil leaks.

Congrats to the CAF Redbird Squadron based out of HQ at Dallas Executive Airport on receiving assignment and delivery of the CAF’s 1943 Taylorcraft L-2A. With the Indiana Wing having recently taken assignment of another aircraft (look for that exciting beast this summer) it was time for us to say goodbye to the beloved L-bird. The L-2 departed Indy Metro Airport Saturday at sunrise and landed at Dallas Exec three fuel stops and 13 hrs later.

The rudder for our beloved PT-26 is repaired and ready to re-install on the aircraft. Last October, we experienced a failure of right side control arm that drives the tail wheel. The fabric had to be removed, some of the riveted structure had to be dis-assembled, weld the broken arm, re-assemble the structure, re-cover, and paint. A major project for what looks to be a minor failure.

A twin-engine C-47 called “That’s All, Brother” that led Allied aircraft into France on D-Day sat for years at a bone yard in Wisconsin. It could soon fly over Normandy again.
