NATwA, founded in 1966, promotes competitive tiddlywinks play in North America and in partnership with the English Tiddlywinks Association and other associations around the world.

Here's a photograph of the 1964 Altrincham Grammar School tiddlywinks team in England. Altrincham was a top team in the early 1960s, with its pairs often winning the Northern Junior Tiddlywinks Championships and its winkers setting Guinness world records for various record events. Only 11 to 18 year olds were permitted to compete in the NJTwC.
// However I do have to point out that it was myself [Stephen Williams] and not Allen Astles who achieved the feat of potting 24 winks from 18 inches in the time of 21.8 seconds. // Note: this record was set in May 1966 and still stands today, 53 years later.

The legal size of squidgers changed on 1 October 1963:
// RULE 4: For squidger dimensions, delete 'approx 1 1/2 in. diameter' and substitute 'round and between 1 and 2 inches in diameter'. The use of the small and medium-sized winks as squidgers is thus ruled out. The new Rule does however admit diversity of squidgers within the prescribed regulations, and players may change squidgers during a game, using a different type of squidger for a different type of shot. For example, squidgers may have different profiles (i.e. cross-section)--some may be thick-edged, some thin-edged. Thus for potting a wink from under the lip of the pot one might prefer to use a slightly flexible squidger which is wafer-thin at the edge and thickens towards the middle. //

The rules prior to the change: http://tiddlywinks.org/rules-of-tiddlywinks/international-rules-of-tiddlywinks-around-1962-to-1963/
Squidger size was metricized around 1990. The current rules state that:
// A squidger must be between 25 mm and 51 mm in diameter, and no thicker than 5 mm at any point. //
The latter change permitted slightly smaller (25 mm ~= 0.984252 inch) and larger (51 mm ~= 2.00787 inches) squidgers.

Variants of the official game of tiddlywinks are called "perversions".
In 1976, winker Sunshine wrote the seminal tome on perversions, entitled The Alleghany Airlines Book Club Presents.
The 2017 book, The Organization of Information, by Daniel N. Joudrey and Arlene G. Taylor, refers to this tome in discussing the utility of determining the content of a book or article based on its title. Of course, Sunsch's title is rather roundabout in its ways.
As if turns out, Sunsch wrote the Allegheny Airlines company (note the "eny" rather than "any" in the name) asking permission to use "Allegheny Airlines" in the title, but they declined. Therefore, Sunsch intentionally misspelled it as "Alleghany".
Also, the 2017 book refers to an alternate title, "A Compendium of Tiddlywinks Perversions", though that title was not used by Sunshine; it is, however, used in the document metadata provided at .

Today our champion pair, Patrick Barrie and Harley Jones, played the world champions Larry Kahn and Dave Lockwood at Larry's home in Vienna (near Washington DC). I'm pleased to report that the Brits were victorious after 7 gruelling games (all games were 5-2 or 4-3 scores), by 25 points to 24!
Congratulations to Patrick Driscoll, who won the English Tiddlywinks Association's National Singles Championship today in Cambridge, England. Oh, and by the way, it was Patrick's first national singles championship. Well done!

David Lockwood and Larry Kahn, "the Ali-Frazier" of Tiddlywinks, are vying to win the World Pairs title. To the professional winkers, the game is far more than shooting discs, or "winks," into a cup.

The iconic Prince Philip Silver Wink was designed by Robert Welch in 1960 and debuted in 1961. Prince Philip commissioned the trophy for the winner of inter-university tiddlywinks matches in the UK. This trophy was Robert Welch’s first royal commission.
This trophy was recently brought to our attention again, by an avid Tiddlywinks fan. The trophy, called the Prince Philip Silver Wink, was designed by Robert Welch in 1960 at Prince Philip's request for the annual Tiddlywinks match between Oxford and Cambridge Universities. In a quote from Winking World 1, page 1, Feb 1961 we learn that: "H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh has presented a very fine trophy, a mounted silver wink, to be competed for between all the winking Universities in Britain.” What a strange and wonderful world of tiddlywinks!

| Like tiddlywinks, like life. You could act by science or faith. [...] For what was life but a masterful game of tiddlywinks in which you spent your sorrowful hours in wild endeavour to flick your pitiful talents into the cup of success! Only to have them emptied out, with the battle before you again. An ever fertile, ever renewed battle--that was life. [...]
"It's your turn again," said the poor relation, flashing her teeth at Robin. "Your father played the last one for you." He sat down; hilariously flicked, not caring where the silly countered went. One after another they rattled into the cup.
You're playing phenomenal tiddlywinks," said Mr. Pybus approvingly. |

MIT Admission's current web site includes the following in its short list of MIT Fun Facts:
| Up through 1980, MIT had several dominant tiddlywinks teams competing in the intercollegiate level and winning national and world championships. For those of you who don’t know what tiddlywinks is, it is an indoor game that’s played on a felt mat. There are two types of disks involved: “winks” and “squidgers.” To play the game, squidgers are used to press on the edge of the wink and propel it into the air. The object of the game is to get your winks into a pot that is in the middle of the mat. |

// One of the most disappointing developments in the last year or so has been the tendency for teams to concentrate of s[q]uopping to such an extent as to turn the game into a farce. Over-concentration on squopping, while tactically successful as far as sheer results are concerned, makes the game tedious for the vast majority of players, incomprehensible to the spectator, and generally likely to "bring the game into disrepute". Added to this, there is some uncertainty as to what exactly constitutes a fair desquopping shot. // from Winking World 1, February 1961
We've just unearthed an unpublished tiddlywinks song called the "Wild Winkend" from the mid-1970s. Winking culture has long included songs. It's to the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies television show theme song. Here it is!
Ferdie pulled up and rolled out the felt
The squidgers were so hot we thought they would melt
We're feelin' good and we just got started
It won't be long 'til all the winks are potted
Hey boys, it's a wild winkend
Bob sets the clock and we started to play
"Chickens Courageous" is what the shirts say
It won't be long 'til we start a-squoppin'
Pretty soon the piles will be poppin'
Hey yeah it's a wild winkend

Years ago (1989), winker Sunshine came across an amusing song about tiddlywinks called The Woman Who Gobbled Swiss Cheese, the first song written by musician Sarah Pirtle. Here's the song and the lyrics. https://youtu.be/nikQzD3TUuA.
Oh there once was a woman who gobbled swiss cheese, gobbled swiss cheese, gobbled swiss cheese.
And one day she woke up with holes in her knees, woke up with holes in her knees.
This woman cried help me, oh what shall I do, what shall I do, what shall I do.
When I look at my knees I see sky shining through, now I see sky shining through.
So she went to the doctor who answered with ease, answered with ease, answered with ease.
She said swallow some tiddlywinks, they’ll fill up your knees, tiddlywinks will fill up your knees.
So she salted some tiddlywinks and gobbled down lots, gobbled down lots, gobbled down lots.
And now instead of holes she has green polka dots, now she has green polka dots.
