It was a great weekend for the #ΣΑΕ 2016 Eminent Archon Institute. Nearly 200 SAE chapter leaders were able to visit the Levere Memorial Temple for dinner and a Health-and-Safety seminar on Saturday evening. Here is a group picture of the undergraduates taken as the Fraternity's program concluded this morning. The #EAI2016 program focused on attendees learning the keys to being a successful chapter President and make a positive impact as young leaders.

Brothers, Families, and Friends of Sigma Alpha Epsilon,

Today, Wednesday, November 11th, is a day reserved for honoring those who have served their nation in uniform and carry the honored title of Veteran. Veteran’s Day in the United States and Remembrance Day for our Canadian Brothers brings the opportunity for each of us to say thank you to the men and women who by their service and sacrifice provide the rest of the opportunity to enjoy life, liberty, and prosperity. Thousands of SAE men from 1856 to today have played a major part of sustaining this service to community and nation.

As a Veteran, I am proud of my service and the thousands with whom I had the privilege to serve for many years. I am equally proud to be part of our great Fraternity. The connection between both is the idea that every individual is important and dedicated to something larger than themselves. Even when faced with adversity, it is this focus on persevering and succeeding that is their hallmark.

President Teddy Roosevelt once said:

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

So today, take a moment and thank a Veteran. They deserve our remembrance and our respect. Reflect on what they represent as examples of service and sacrifice, and then rededicate yourself to striving harder to live up the legacy they have provided each of us.

One of the treasures of the Levere Memorial Temple are the Deagan Tower Chimes. Every noon, the roll player comes alive and plays songs for all of Evanston to hear. Rolls that play the chimes up in the bell tower are switched out sporadically, keeping with the different holidays and seasons. We wonder, as the days get shorter and colder, when the roll with holiday music should be installed.
