About 6 + months ago, I invited Euless residents to provide names of their ancestors who were drafted and/or served in WWI. Since this is the 100 th anniversary of WWI, they needed to be honored.

Thirteen names were submitted. After finding as much information and documents as possible, posters were created and are being displayed at the Euless Heritage Park Museum's Military Room. They will be displayed until end of 2018 year.

The Museum is opened the 2nd Saturday of each month from 1 pm till 5 pm. If you get a chance, please stop by to view the posters.

CENTENNIAL COMMEMORATION
Remembering the Events of WWI, 100 Years Ago

(continued)

On 6 April 1917, the United States declared war on Germany and officially entered World War I. Six weeks later, on 18 May 1917, the Selective Service Act was passed, which authorized the president to increase the military establishment of the United States. As a result, every male living within the United States between the ages of eighteen and forty-five was required to register for the draft.

Was your ancestor one of these men that were required register?

To help recreate our local WWI history, we'd like to have copies of these draft registrations. They can then be displayed and maintained at the Euless Heritage Park Museum as part of our History.

In order get these copies, please post here the names of your ancestors who were or might have been drafted. The names may also be e-mailed to [email protected] , City of Euless, Parks and Community Services Department.

The Euless Historical Preservation Committee will then attempt to locate their draft registrations.

The last couple of years, the programming sub committee of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee has scheduled several different programs at Heritage Park Open Houses. They are been quite popular.

We need to start planning programs for next year that would please our citizens (as well as surrounding city's citizens).

We have had presentations by a Revolutionary War soldier, a descendant of an Indian chief, bands and singers, Smoke Bear, and more.

We need more suggestions of possible programs that we might present.

Please post here to let us know what you would like to see at our Open Houses.
