I still have more to show you from my trip up into the Sierras, but this one I actually did after I got home, from a photo reference. I am showing it to you now because I painted it for this month's Daily Paintworks Challenge (https://www.dailypaintworks.com/challenge/the-rock-challenge/537). If you'd like a crack at this scene (or rocks in general, which is the theme of the challenge), follow the link for the reference. Anyone is welcome to submit to our challenges (https://www.dailypaintworks.com/challenges)!

I hate to bail in the middle of posting my mountain paintings, but I am off to squeeze just one more camping adventure out of this summer. This trip is all about family, and not painting. : ( It also means I won't be able to ship until I return, which will be as late as 9/18/19 (2 weeks). I apologize for the inconvenience!

This is a beautiful rose.

Sorry to be away for so long! First I was teaching plein air in Carmel to a group of WONDERFUL and brave kids (see photos on my blog (https://carolmarine.blogspot.com/2018/06/wink-at-pink.html))...
...and then my husband and I went camping for a while in Eastern Oregon.
We have just a few days to get settled here before we are off again. Next week we leave for 2 weeks in Germany and then 10 days in France - my last workshop of the year. I hope to post a few more times before then.
Unfortunately I won't be able to ship any paintings until after we get home again - July 17th. : (

I've been spending most of my time recently experimenting with a few new tools: rollers, squeegees and palette knives, in addition to brushes. The results have been very mixed, (mostly producing large piles of gray paint) but finally yesterday I felt like I was getting a little traction. I still have a LONG way to go, but figured it would be nice to leave you (for Europe) on a positive note. I actually did this one big first (24"x24") and mostly hated it, but this small version makes me very happy.
Reminder: I won't be able to ship any paintings until I am home again - July 17th.

I found this little guy on our doorstep in Taos when I was there painting with friends earlier this year. It reminded me of a series of hand colored photographs by artist Kate Breakey that I saw when I was in college, called "Small Deaths (http://www.katebreakey.com/small-deaths-birds-flowers/)". I like this one (http://www.katebreakey.com/small-deaths-birds-flowers/kud8g0r2ynrcr8vef09df6cqjqje5p) in particular. They are even better in person.

This is another scene from NYC. There is a cool thing there that used to be an elevated train, but is now a public walkway up on the tracks. It's called the High Line. I was up there, walking along, when I took the photo for this one. I've wanted to paint it for a long time.

Tomorrow I begin another 5-day workshop, so expect a pause from me online.

This is a scene from the little bitty town of Enterprise, OR. We passed through here on our vacation this summer in Eastern Oregon. The sun was hitting this storefront at such an angle that only little slivers were lit, plus the bright flowers. The plants were actually lots of colors, but I felt solid red better pulled the scene together.
