The Scandinavian Folkdancers of Phoenix

The Scandinavian Folkdancers of Phoenix The Scandinavian Folk Dancers of Phoenix is a group made up of metro-Phoenix-area residents who enjoy and perform Scandinavian Folk Dance.

The Scandinavian Folk Dancers of Phoenix is a community dance group that meets bi-weekly during most of the year (we take summers off) for dance practice. We perform a range of Scandinavian folk dances, all beginner-friendly and lots of fun. Past performance locations have included community centers, churches, Sons of Norway events, and even Ikea. A performance at the Musical Instrument Museum (MI

M) is planned for December 2017. Both singles and couples are welcome, don't worry if you don't have a bunad or folk costume, we can figure that out later. Come meet us and get a bit of exercise and a whole lot of fun with a friendly group of people! (Please check this FB page or contact us directly for further info regarding practice location, dates, etc.)

We performed for the the Sons of Norway, Desert Fjord lodge in January. The response from our Scandinavian brethren when we dance is always warm and appreciative. It is a great experience and I personally enjoy the good natured ribbing and rivalry of the Swedish vs. Norwegian tension.

As a Swede, If I hear "A hundred Swedes ran through the weeds, chased by one Norwegian" again, it will be too soon.

In December, our group was invited to join the "'Tis the Season" celebration at the Musical Instrument Museum. Each day of the weekend, we held a workshop of Scandinavian dances. Participation was wonderful! Thirty to fifty people joined us each day to learn a mix of traditional Christmas (Jul) and Midsummer (Midsommar) ring dances (ringlekar) as well as some folk dances.

We were a small group, but showed our Viking spirit! Thanks to AI one of our members converted our costume picture to create a small Viking horde.

We were pleased to be invited to the join in the 2025 Fiesta Bowl Parade. It was interesting to attempt to modify a few dances to the parade format where backing up was prohibited and having to keep up the pace, or stop repeatedly. The group was fantastic at adapting to this format! Fun was had by all!!!!
