El Caballo Park in Escondido

El Caballo Park in Escondido EL CABALLO PARK CONSERVANCY "Preserving Past and Future". The project essentially entails designing Now the real work begins. Please join us.

The El Caballo Conservancy began in 2012 with a small group of Escondido residents who thought moving the Water District behind dog park was a bad use of this beautiful land. The community quickly joined the grass roots efforts led by Rick Paul and Steve Berrol. The City of Escondido cancelled the plan to move the water district to this location and approved financial support for a master plan for

El Caballo Park. We have a beautiful master plan with 6 phases of development. Funds and awareness are needed to keep this project moving forward.

Happy New Year Everyone. We certainl y hope 2021 is better than 2020. If you haven't seen our new ARENA, please stop by and check it out. Slowly but surely, improvements you asked for are happening. AN UPDATE ON EL CABALLO PARK AND A REQUEST FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT:

For those of you who have followed us since our beginning in 2011, watched us struggle to assure this land would remain a place for animals and the people who care about them: THINGS ARE HAPPENING!!

Some of you have probably seen the NATURAL PLAY AREA just south of the Charros Arena. Work is still being completed but you'll notice that children are beginning to see it and play there.

A NEW SIGN indicating the entrance to Daley Ranch from El Caballo Park is now in place. Eventually, a similar sign for El Caballo Park will be erected.

AND THE REALLY BIG NEWS FOR HORSE LOVERS: The HORSE ARENA is coming. The ground is being prepared and you'll soon see the arena.

Once completed, we will have a grand opening. We will be establishing a set of rules for use of the horse arena, but it will be available to the public.

All of these items have been funded in part by the City of Escondido and grants from the County of San Diego and the Escondido Charitable Foundation. However, there is still so much to do. This is a reminder to those of you who wish to continue to support us: PLEASE SEND YOUR DONATIONS TO EL CABALLO PARK CONSERVANCY, P.O. BOX 300371, ESCONDIDO, CA 92030

CELEBRATION FOR FUTURE PARK-
By U-T San Diego5:05 a.m.July 26, 2014-email [email protected]

The public is invited to celebrate “A Day in the Park” at the future site of El Caballo Park in Escondido from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The park site is at 3410 E. Valley Parkway. Access is from Beven Drive.

Pony rides, horsemanship demonstrations, entertainment and food will be part of the family fun, as will booths by organizations focused on equestrians, dogs, and wildlife and habitat preservation.

The all-volunteer El Caballo Park Conservancy is sponsoring the event to honor the work of residents who fought for their vision of a natural habitat as a public park with an equestrian and canine theme and opportunities designed to assist wounded warriors and special-needs children and adults.

Efforts to create the park began three years ago when the city of Escondido proposed building a water department administrative and maintenance facility at the location.

“The residents fought to stop the city from destroying a very rural mountainous parcel of the city adjacent to a large natural preserve,” said Steve Berrol, president of the conservancy.

Eventually the City Council changed direction and decided to proceed with development of an equestrian park.

The park will be located next to Daley Ranch, the Charros Arena, Escondido Humane Society, Mayflower Dog Park, Hidden Valley Obedience Club and the Escondido Creek Trail.
