A crowd gathered in Baldwin in 1910 to hear President Theodore Roosevelt speak. Among the dignitaries behind the former president are William Allen White, Emporia Gazette editor; Henry J. Allen, future Kansas governor; Joseph Bristow, Kansas senator; Osmon Grant Markham, Baker University professor. Roosevelt gave his famous “New Nationalism” speech the same day in Osawatomie.
