A Message from the Wing Leader

In response to growing concerns from the public regarding transmission of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the Staff of Air Group One has been carefully reviewing guidance from both state and local public health officials. While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at the Air Group One hangar or on Gillespie Field, we felt it appropriate to take a compassionate, responsible stance regarding the health and safety of people around the airport.

With those precautions and guidelines in mind, the Staff has made the decision to postpone all Air Group One meetings and events for the foreseeable future.

We will continue to actively monitor this situation and plan to resume activities as soon as guidance from health officials allows.

We thank you all for your support of Air Group One, CAF.
Please stay safe and look out for each other.

Wing Leader

General information

To Pilots: We are handpicking top notch pilots for our war birds and air shows. Best bet is to get involved as a volunteer and Air Group One participant and show our "Wardroom" your motivation. Plenty of guys can fly these old planes but we need pilots that can bring some talent to our Air Group. To Maintainers: AG1 has some experienced guys with tremendous knowledge to pass on. If you are interested in old rotary engines, rebuilding war birds and getting involved with a great team, then we want you to come down. To Aviation Enthusiasts: If you are excited about aviation and a go getter, then we may invite you to become part of our team. AG1 is about as close to a "Squadron" type atmosphere that a civilian can get. We can use managers, engineers, and young professionals to help run our organization. Flights in our war birds are always a possibility for active volunteers.

Growing up near Gillespie field in the late 60s, There used to be a TBF Avenger in pretty rough shape. Does anyone know if it was saved?

Sending a HUGE thank you to Doug, Debbie, and all of Air Group One for allowing us to use their CAF Hangar for my husband's final reenlistment ceremony. Everyone was amazed by all of the history in Sassy and the hangar!!
