Happy Father's Day to all the Dads! Thank you to all that visited LongHouse today; it was a happy day to see so many families sharing time together in the gardens. A couple of weeks ago, this young family visited LongHouse and we gave baby Sloan her first bottle of bubbles and it was hard to tell who had the most fun!

Today is Juneteenth, the newest national holiday and a day of celebration that marks the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth has been celebrated in Texas, and in other parts of the country since 1866. Although today we have an event that had been planned since last year, our Planters: ON+OFF the Ground X, we look forward to honoring and celebrating this day with an event beginning in 2022. Check out this marvelous image of Black Civil War veterans, with their Grand Army of the Republic caps, on parade in New York City in 1912.

"If the cost of adding a room is in the six figures - in addition to furnishings - outdoor rooms are that much more affordable. As they are also closer to nature, let's spend more time in them - but creatively, comfortably, and enjoyably: design does not need to stop at the back door and most of us have more space for guests and for art, Outside" Jack Lenor Larsen. Jack wrote these words for our 2014 exhibition "Exteriors" that featured ideas for outdoor living including these beautiful lounge chairs from Moroso International. Come have a seat in them the next time you visit the gardens.

Weekly Wellness With Nikki On The Daily: The LongHouse Experience

Thank you Nicole and James Lane Post for this lovely feature on LongHouse!

The past year caused a chaos within ourselves likely unmatched by anything we’ve experienced prior. As a collective, we were overwhelmed by the news, isolation, death, fear — the list of pessimistic pandemic associations goes on. It left us in a wake of distress, frazzled, and in need of an emot...

Togetherness is where it's at at LongHouse. We love to play host to friends and family that gather - maybe to look at art, maybe to view the gardens and maybe to just enjoy each other's company. Welcome to our new friends: classmates from Pace University, couples from East Meadow, and girlfriends from Philadelphia. Thank you for visiting LongHouse this week!

What better way to start the week than with a school tour? Today we welcomed a fourth grade class from Springs School. Their teacher, Mrs. Knight, read them, "Ten Beautiful Things" before exploring the grounds and finding and sketching ten beautiful things at LongHouse. Thank you Mrs. Knight and Springs School for letting children discover art and nature in the gardens, a true outdoor learning lab. Images courtesy of Mrs. Knight.

Last week at LongHouse was filled with so many beautiful moments as we welcomed guests to enjoy National Public Gardens Day, Family Day and Mother's Day; thank you to all who shared some time with us! Our Education Chair, Selena Rothwell, was greeting guests this past weekend when a wonderful reunion occurred. Selena tells the story: "A young couple visited LongHouse as part of their trip from Colorado to return to see family in Montauk. Nathaniel had spent most of the trip home talking about LongHouse - coming with his class on school trips and then visiting on his own. As a high school junior he entered the LH Student Annual, our juried art show for students. He submitted a scale model, blue prints and writing describing his project of LongHouse in the near future with elements of sustainability such as solar panels. He was awarded a first prize in Architectural Design came to the ceremony and was called up to receive his ribbon. That meant more to him than anything. The recognition, the ability to be inspired, to take that inspiration and create…to stretch his mind and just fly… He said that this opportunity, this discovery of himself, well it opened a new world of possibilities. It literally changed his life. Today Nate designs jewelry and has his own business. Bringing his girlfriend to LH gave her goosebumps and this retelling just validated how important LongHouse can be to a young person, their self- concept, their future. The icing on the cake was when I showed him the catalogue from the latest Student Annual. He was so happy that it was still going on and changing future minds, ways of thinking and seeing. Just look at their faces! It truly was a beautiful day." Nate in front of one of his favorite pieces from his visit, Daniel Arsham's "Bronze Eroded Venus de Milo."

We visited yesterday - so happy we did ... your property is amazing and we will have to come back again and again to keep discovering the beauty of it all at different times of the year. My pictures can't even do your place justice - its just something everyone needs to see and feel themselves.😍🥰❤️
