Happy Birthday to us! In May of 2004, the Town of Huntington voted to make The John and Alice Coltrane home a landmark, saving it from demolition.

We may never know why John and Alice Coltrane chose Dix Hills as the place they would want to live and raise their family, but they did. About 30 miles from Manhattan, centrally located on Long Island, in the Town of Huntington, NY, Dix Hills was considered “out in the country” in 1964. Sitting ...

50 years ago, on this date - Alice Coltrane recorded "Journey in Satchidananda" in The Coltrane Home basement studio. Rolling Stone lists it in the 2020 edition of the Greatest Albums of All Time. We are working towards restoring the studio so it will once again be alive with wonderful music.

The John and Alice Coltrane Home in Dix Hills, New York

In October 2006, the Coltrane Family, the Friends of the Coltrane Home Working Committee, and several additional invitees important to the Coltrane legacy participated in a Visioning workshop. This event, coupled with additional follow-up discussions with Ravi Coltrane and others has provided the basis for the Vision and Mission that follow. Subsequent vision and planning meetings have expanded the educational component – called the Coltrane Legacy Education Project.

THE VISION

The Friends of the Coltrane Home will work to fulfill John and Alice Coltranes’ vision of goodwill and connection through the sharing of the common language of music, and

  • Create an inspirational museum and archives celebrating the Coltranes’ music and influences, and the music legacy they were and remain a part of;
  • Nearby museums
