Lake County Historical Museum The Lake County Historical Museum displays artifacts pertaining to the history of Lake County, Indiana. The museum is open from May to October.

The local history museum in downtown Crown Point is run by the even more long-running Lake County Historical Society, which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025.

Want to visit the museum or courthouse but not sure where to park? Our Visit page includes a link to a PDF of parking options around the Square that was created by the City of Crown Point!

If you’re ready for a visit, you can find our museum on the second floor of the Old Courthouse on the Square. The museum is on the north side of the building, or to the left and past the rotunda if getting off the elevator.

This past weekend was the annual Logs to Lustrons tour held by Indiana Landmarks. Though we did not go into this house, we did drive past this famous structure and many of the other Century of Progress Homes on the tour. Indiana Landmarks will host another tour in September so mark your calendars.

Volunteer Call-out: It's the Lake County Historical Museum's 40th anniversary season. We're looking for people to help us preserve our local history and be part of what's next for both the Museum and the Lake County Historical Society. Current openings include museum docents and greeters, exhibits and collections care, outreach and special events, serving on the Society's board, and more. We're open to new and different ideas for service too. To schedule your interview, please complete our volunteer inquiry form on our new website.

Museum open season is here! Starting this Thursday, May 5, we will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1 PM to 4 PM until end of October. Stop by for a look at the museum as we're looking to move forward on new plans this year.

Visitation for the funeral of Bruce L. Woods will be held on Monday January 11, 2021 at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point from 9 am until the funeral service at 2 pm. Interment will take place at Historic Maplewood, Crown Point.

Masks and social distancing are required. The funeral will be live streamed as well.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lake County Historical Museum, 1 Courthouse Square -Suite 205, Crown Point, IN. 46307.

Beloved Crown Point historian, Merrillville educator Bruce Woods dies at 78

Bruce Woods passed away this morning. He was our Lake County Historian, President of the Lake County Historical Society, and Director of the Lake County Historical Museum for over 40 years.

Bruce was highly active as a volunteer, simultaneously serving as Chairman of the Lake Courthouse Foundation Board, Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis Club of Merrillville, Trustee for the Lake County Public Library, and President of the Merrillville Education Foundation. He was an English teacher for Merrillville High School prior to his retirement.

He touched many lives through his volunteer work and teaching, and will be deeply missed. More information will be posted in the near future.

The longtime preservationist of Lake County history and beloved Merrillville High School teacher died Tuesday. He was 78.
