HHS meeting minutes from July 7, 2026.
In attendance: Barbara McDavid, Dortha Stansbury, Leota Holland, Jack Debolt and Rodney and Carolyn Newell.

The minutes of the June 9th, 2026 meeting were read and accepted.

The treasurer reported a balance of $3197.61. A donation of $100 was given to us from the Northridge High School class of 1967.

Rodney will talk to Marc Dopp regarding a heating system for the museum. It has to do with a contract between the library and the township.

We talked about our HHS and Croton pages.

We set the date for our opening event for September 26, 2026.
Advertising the event was discussed.
Rodney will come up with a draft plan. We discussed the layout for sale of items, etc.
Booklet draft with information will be put together by Rodney. Library will be open and a cookout will be held on the square in Croton this day as well.
Barbara is coordinating.

The Hartford Fire Department donated a 48 star American flag that will be used to make the Grange meeting appear as it would have been.
A representative from the Dan Emmit Grange came to see what was needed as far as equipment and furnishings to conduct an authentic Grange meeting.
We will need to move the photo A-frames out in order to place the Grange stands in the proper location in the front and on both sides. Also, the big 3-sided table in the front and the small 3-sided tables along the walls as well as proper placement of flags and implements, which are used in the proceedings. Chairs will need to be reset in proper order.
The program will include a narrative of what's happening and why. Velma Hewett will serve as the master (leader) of the proceedings. She is the last member of the Hartford Grange.

The library is offering us their card file if we want it. Barbara is working out details.

Leota moved to adjourn, seconded by Jack Debolt.

A note from David Underwood:
My dad was Harrison Underwood who preached at the Croton Church of Christ from 1963-1976. I graduated from Northridge High School class of 1971. I loved seeing School Land Church being restored. A lot of history in that church and the whole community. Croton is still home.

Thank you to the Northridge High School class of 1967 for your generous donation to the HHS!

June 9th, 2026 HHS meeting minutes. Those present were Dortha Stansbury, Barbara McDavid, Leota Holland, Jack Debolt, and Rodney Newell.
This was a special meeting regarding pressing issues in the HHS room. No minutes or treasurers report was given.
The curtains that Barbara provided need tie-backs to be used when we need to open the windows for ventilation. Curtains are to remain closed at all other times to avoid damage to photos. Barbara will get tiebacks.
Our proposed opening event (a Grange meeting and a presentation of Hartford Township history) was discussed. We need to be in communication with the village group planning the summer event. Our desire is to have our opening the same day. Barbara volunteered to find out when the village plans their activities. We need to coordinate and advertise.
Leota is going to donate a window air conditioning unit.
Jack moved to adjourn.

Update on museum space: It has been cleaned, walls have been painted, and window coverings and storage units have been donated.
The space is ADA compliant with the donation of a chair lift to the second floor.
The next step is the installation of a heating and cooling/dehumidifier system for the space. This will occur after accruing donations/funds and/or equipment donation.
The HHS is non-profit and functions by donation only. If interested in donating, please make checks out to The Hartford Historical Society. The mailing address is P.O. Box 7, Croton, Ohio 43013.

May 5th, 2026 meeting minutes.
In attendance: Barbara McDavid, Linda Piper, Leota Holland, Jack Debolt, Rodney and Carolyn Newell.
Minutes of the April meeting were read and approved.
-We need file stands for filing cabinets.
-Jack will install new lock on museum door
-Jack and Rodney took the fundraising sign down for repairs
-The value of the chairs was discussed. Two people, an auctioneer, and a former antique dealer were asked about prices. Their assumption for all the chairs were from $5.00-$100.00 per chair.
-It was discussed to let township trustees know that we were selling chairs. They had been the property of the now closed Grange. Our opinion is that they could be sold to raise money for the museum.
-We discussed the order in which we will proceed in filing papers and historic items to include a numbering system and electronic method so we will be able to find things in the future.
-Barbara brought some curtains to try out. Decision not yet made on what we will use.
-Rodney provided a draft hand receipt to be used upon receipt of donated items. Vote was taken and approval for their adoption. Rodney will get copies made.
-Meeting adjourned.
