We're looking forward to another chance to see Big Boy on his return trip through Conneaut this week! This "over/under" shot was staged by the CN railroad along the old Bessemer tracks leading to the P & C Dock on the Eastern leg of its cross country tour. These same "under" tracks fed iron ore from Conneaut to the mills that produced the steel that built the
weapons and equipment that made the
United States the "Arsenal of
Democracy" during WWII. Big Boy was
built during WWII specifically to pull those heavy loads of equipment and
weaponry over the Rocky Mountains on
their way to the Pacific Ocean for use
against Japan.
