As we wrap up our May "Hidden Gems" exhibition, open houses, and performance series, we want to thank our partner Freedom's Way National Heritage Area for supporting our participation in its biggest-ever annual Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture & History! We had a blast hosting three great concerts, participating in Spring Into West Concord Day, and meeting hundreds of visitors from all across the northeast during our Meet the Curator open houses.

The Guitar Museum of New England is proud to help celebrate the Concord Conservatory of Music’s 20th Anniversary! We are thrilled to help bring the joy of live music out of the concert hall and into everyday life with Pianos on the Town. In partnership with the global arts nonprofit Sing for Hope Piano(s), artist-designed pianos will appear throughout Concord and West Concord—including at the future home of our Museum at 74 Commonwealth Ave—free for anyone to play, enjoy, and discover! NOTE: Due to weather, the Piano Xtravaganza Launch Party on Saturday, May 30, 10:30 AM has been moved indoors to 15 Junction Square Dr in West Concord!

For throwback Thursday, we're taking a look back at 2017's "Breaking the Mold" exhibition at The Umbrella Arts Center in Concord, MA. This show celebrated 50 years of innovation in the art of guitar building by master luthier Steve Klein. It attracted thousands of visitors, included a concert by legendary jazz guitarist Bill Frisell , and was an important proof of concept convincing Guitar Museum of New England cofounder and curator Wilson Schunemann (pictured right) of the widespread appreciation of the art of fine guitar-making.

This post is coming to you from Vermilion, South Dakota, more precisely from the National Music Museum (NMM) exhibit on the art of Archtop Guitar making, featuring tools, forms, jigs, clamps and all, from two of New York’s most influential makers: John D'Angelico and Jimmy D'Aquisto, also a tribute to steward and guardian Paul Gudelsky. A wonderful book is available at the museum's website, titled: "The Masters' Bench" The Guitar-Making Workshop of D'Angelico, D'Aquisto, and Gudelsky.

Personally, visiting this "shrine" is another item on my bucket list, as I continue to visit, research, and experience museums related to Chordophone instruments family and musical instruments in general.

This week makes it even more special, because it's the meeting of the American Musical Instrument Society, or AMIS conference. Here's a quote from their website: "The American Musical Instrument Society meets once a year, bringing together an eminent group of musical instrument historians, enthusiasts, makers, collectors, students, performers, and lovers of all varieties of musicalia. Scholarly presentations, fascinating tours, behind-the-scenes access, and exceptional camaraderie abound".
