The Anne Frank Center at the University of South Carolina is pleased to invite educators and community members in the Lowcountry to join us for two meaningful programs on September 23, 2026, at the Bluffton Branch Library.

First, educators are encouraged to attend Creating Student-Centered Learning Spaces, a complimentary professional development workshop led by Corey Harbaugh. This session will introduce participants to the Anne Frank House's internationally recognized Peer Education model and provide practical strategies for fostering student voice, engagement, and collaboration across diverse learning environments.

Following the workshop, the community is invited to a special screening of The Ice Cream Man, the Oscar-shortlisted short film inspired by the remarkable true story of Ernst Cahn. The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion exploring themes of resilience, moral courage, remembrance, and the enduring relevance of Holocaust education.

Through programs such as these, the Anne Frank Center remains committed to helping individuals and communities learn from the lessons of history, deepen their understanding of our common humanity, and promote the dialogue and understanding necessary to build a more peaceful future.

Closing out a meaningful week with educators from across the country at our annual Training of the Trainer program, the Anne Frank Center at the University of South Carolina was honored to once again prepare leaders to bring our traveling exhibition programs and peer education initiatives to life. This June, we welcomed 20 passionate educators, advocates, and community leaders for an immersive experience grounded in learning, connection, and engagement with this powerful work. Throughout the week, participants explored how to support young people in guiding thoughtful conversations, encouraging empathy, and fostering understanding in their communities. This program continues to expand our national reach as we work toward offering programming in all 50 states by 2029, Anne’s centennial, as the Official Partner of the Anne Frank House in the United States. At a time when communities are seeking stronger connection and understanding across differences, this work remains more important than ever, creating space for dialogue rooted in courage and compassion. We are inspired by the dedication and insight of this year’s cohort and look forward to seeing how they carry this experience forward, strengthening networks and extending the impact of these programs nationwide.

Anne Frank was just one of the 1.5 million Jewish children who perished during the Holocaust. Had she survived, she would have celebrated her 97th birthday on June 12.

This June 12, the Anne Frank Center at USC will host a special drop- in activity for children and families of all ages at All Good Books to remember Anne and honor the lives and memories of the countless children lost during the Holocaust.

This free community activity will give young participants the opportunity to paint a ceramic butterfly as a symbol of remembrance, hope, and resilience. We hope you will join us in reflecting on Anne’s legacy and helping ensure that the stories of these children are never forgotten.

Today, May 12th, on what would have been Otto Frank’s 137th birthday, we pause to reflect not only on a father’s legacy, but on a life devoted to preserving truth, memory, and humanity.

At the Anne Frank House, it was a privilege to welcome Cara Wilson-Granat, whose remarkable correspondence with Otto Frank over many years offers a deeply personal window into his character, his resilience, and his unwavering commitment to sharing Anne’s voice with the world.

Reading and preserving these letters reminds us that history is not just made of events, but of relationships, of dialogue, and of the quiet determination of individuals who choose to carry stories forward. Otto Frank did not simply safeguard Anne’s diary, he ensured that her words would continue to inspire generations to stand for dignity, empathy, and justice.

For those interested in visiting, Cara’s correspondence with Otto Frank is preserved at the University of South Carolina’s Special Collections library, where these powerful exchanges continue to educate and connect us across time.

Today, we honor Otto Frank not only for what he endured, but for what he built after unimaginable loss, a legacy rooted in remembrance, education, and hope.
