Today, May 12th, on what would have been Otto Frank’s 137th birthday, we pause to reflect not only on a father’s legacy, but on a life devoted to preserving truth, memory, and humanity.

At the Anne Frank House, it was a privilege to welcome Cara Wilson-Granat, whose remarkable correspondence with Otto Frank over many years offers a deeply personal window into his character, his resilience, and his unwavering commitment to sharing Anne’s voice with the world.

Reading and preserving these letters reminds us that history is not just made of events, but of relationships, of dialogue, and of the quiet determination of individuals who choose to carry stories forward. Otto Frank did not simply safeguard Anne’s diary, he ensured that her words would continue to inspire generations to stand for dignity, empathy, and justice.

For those interested in visiting, Cara’s correspondence with Otto Frank is preserved at the University of South Carolina’s Special Collections library, where these powerful exchanges continue to educate and connect us across time.
