Cloe and Leo's Custom Built Dollhouses, Birdhouses, and Mailboxes

Cloe and Leo's Custom Built Dollhouses, Birdhouses, and Mailboxes Hi! My name is John Sellers and I've been a lead carpenter in big residential home construction for twelve years. Now, I make dollhouse for collectors.

This page is all about allowing anyone with a bit of creativity to design what ever style dollhouse or scale model replicas, bird houses and mailboxes....and then, we build it for you. You can be the architect. Send blueprints or ideas on paper via email, and I will personally reply with a cost and time estimate. These dollhouses that I build are not just temporary. They are family heirlooms to be passed down for generations. The reason for this is that I build everything as I would a real house. All sturdy wooden walls and rafters and all built to accommodate the inch to foot scale. What this means is that , when carpenters receive blueprints to build a house, the measurements are scaled down as to fit in about a three by three foot print. These measurements are mostly in the inch scale. One inch on paper equals a foot in reality. 1/12 scale. All my dollhouses are built to this scale for several reasons. The most common side furniture and dolls sold for dollhouses are built on the inch scale. Any door I build, your doll will walk through just as we would in real life. The most popular, sought after dollhouses for collectors are made of sturdy wood, and are built to the inch scale because it allows for great size, commonly shown in a showroom setting or museum. Many families would love to have a dollhouse, and they can be bought for two or three hundred, some go for thousands, but they are cheaply made. Definitely not built to stand the test of time. The most common complaint I get is that these dollhouses come in kits, meant to be put together by the customer. Who has the time? Another one I hear is that the kits come built to the half inch equals a foot scale, and furniture this small is too hard to find. Families and collectors tell me that they would love to have a dollhouse that they can design and already have built, ready to be delivered. The joy for people comes in the furnishing process. I've had electricians want to buy one just so they can wire and light them. As is seen in my workshop photos, these dollhouses are pretty big. One could spend weeks furnishing one of these, and years rearranging!! Every child I've ever met loves doing this. Boys and girls alike. Even fathers say " you kids do what you want with the rest of the house, but the study is MINE to decorate!!" As seen in the photos, I built a replica of a real estate agents rental property, and built it as a five compartment standard size mailbox set on two posts in front of his house as we speak. The house I'm working on now is for sale. I already have sold the next one which I'm to start in about a month, as soon as this one is finished and shipped off to whomever loves it as much as I do, and I believe that they will use it as it was meant to be used. I won't just sell one to anyone. I do this for the children's smiles and how much fun families have coming together spending quality, educational time. Next, a customer I know well has a four year old daughter who would melt over a dollhouse. She asked me to build one for her daughter. I said yes. She wants it to be an exact replica of her house. Inside and out. I went to her house, took my measurements and photos, and said, it will take a month. Lol, her house is quite big!!! For a friend, I charged 400 dollars, but she buys the windows and doors and all materials. I sell them cheap because the customer will be spending quite a bit in furniture as well, but she will soon have an heirloom that her daughter can pass down to her daughter, and her daughters daughter.

Well im back building again. Learned from mistakes and ready to rock and roll. I had to take time off for a while because I was encountering folks who wanted a dollhouse built for their showroom, where kids weren't allowed. This is for the kids man. Plain and simple. If you dont have any money, I will build you one for free.

I see that people have been interested in these things. I tell you that I love and appreciate you all. I am now, and have been for the last year, living as a homeless person in Key West. I dont know where things are going but I wish I had a little house to build. It is for the children and happiness. Perhaps that was the end of the passion and art, but I have no regrets
. I am thankful to have accomplished what was given to me.

These aware taken after my second day working on this Log Cabin style Dollhouse. It's really going to be a beast in about three weeks!
Thanks for the great idea Aunt Joy. There will be three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, a great piano room, and a living room loft.

Hi everyone! I'm having a great time building wonderful t hinges for people!
A few people have asked what all this is about, so I would love to invite people to click the small, barely noticeable, About button located under my business address and contact information.
I'm very happy to share my passion for this business.
I build dollhouses because I've already seen how happy it makes people. Lol!
Especially children!
Those little guys stop by often.
I'll get a pictures soon, when its finished, because all the children in my friends families, here in MD, are coming for a dollhouse opening.
Each family can buy one piece of furniture for one dollar each at the dollar store so that there can be a decoration party for the kids.
I already have been donated quite a few pieces already, though ill give those back because eventually, it will be sold.
Kind of a sad thing for me really. Personally, I wouldn't sell it for a million dollars! But everyone knows, we all have to make a living. Even me.
In the beginning, I built this to donate to the children's hospital here in Columbia. You'd be surprised how hard it is to convince people you would like to donate a giant dollhouse for the children.
I spoke with a few nurses, but the problem is that, they need space for it.
And as I anticipated to finish this current dollhouse in about a month, as time has now turned into two month and one more to go before its finished, I realize that I'm going to have to sell this one.
This has truly become my full time job. Six days a week, eight hours a day.
Some wonderful friends of mine allow me to live rent free in their home because they believe that I believe in this.
So...this is who I am now. John David, the Dollhouse maker.
