The Radio Lady VA I am the Radio Lady: a preservationist, cultural enthusiast, citizen scientist, and avid DIYer. I'm Kathleen Edith-Marie DeMajo Adams!

This is a cultural heritage experience at the Keystone Truck and Tractor Museum about the Golden Age of Wireless Communication in honor of my dad, John DeMajo. Originally from New Orleans, I moved to Virginia to help care for my parents in their dotage. When my beloved father passed in December 2023, I inherited his impressive collection of antique radios and wireless communication equipment as well as his call sign, K5HTZ. The collection can be seen here: www.demajo.net. Before his passing, I promisssed my father that no matter what, I would make sure that the collection he spent his life amassing would be protected and available to the public for entertainment and educational purposes. Now I'm spending my days and nights planning our exhibit at the Keystone Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights. They have much more than tractors AND they have a great breakfast. Send me a message at [email protected] if you would like more details!

We made it, Daddy. ❤️📻

I wish you were here to see where all of this has gone.

I hope this story helps a few more people understand what you taught me — that radio is so much more than equipment, frequencies, and old boxes with dials. It connects people across generations, preserves history, teaches us how the world works, and somehow keeps the voices of the people we love traveling a little farther.

I’m so grateful to Greg McQuade - WTVR CBS 6 for telling this story so beautifully, and to everyone Keystone Antique Truck & Tractor Museum for giving Dad’s radios — and me — a place to keep that story alive.

73, Daddy. I’m still carrying the signal. ❤️

Well, this is pretty exciting!

The Radio Lady made it into The ARRL Letter today!

ARRL featured the radio exhibit at Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum and our Radio Day, which still feels a little surreal to say.

What started as me trying to figure out what to do with my dad’s radio collection has turned into something much bigger than I ever expected. I wanted his radios to stay alive — not just sit somewhere collecting dust, but be used to teach people, spark curiosity, and connect people the way radio always did for him.

Seeing that work recognized by ARRL means a whole lot to me.

And apparently “The Radio Lady” is really sticking. 😂

I’ll put the article link in the comments for anyone who wants to read it. ❤️Keystone Antique Truck & Tractor Museum

Found this Radio Shack Science Fair 300-in-One Electronic Project Lab at a yard sale today. It’s the exact same one my dad gave me when I was a kid — and I never did a thing with it. 😂

The lady selling this one had bought it for her son, who apparently didn’t want anything to do with it either, so it’s basically been sitting new in the box all these years.

I brought it home, put batteries in it, and managed to get one of the original LEDs working.

It’s not very bright and it’s from the ’80s, just like me. 😂

Somehow, after all these years, it found its way back to me right when the time was right — now that I actually have some ham radio knowledge to put into practice and can appreciate what Dad was trying to give me all those years ago. ❤️

This little project was such a neat find at the Nottoway Indian Tribe Powwow today! Kids were building a simple circuit with copper tape, a battery, and an LED.

Hands-on projects like this are such a good reminder that science doesn’t have to feel intimidating. Sometimes it starts with tape, a tiny light, a little experimenting, and somebody saying, “Wait… I made that work!” ❤️

I’m definitely inspired by this idea for a future Radio Lady activities.
