Bush Grandchildren Reunite At Texas A&M

From Texas A&M University: George and Barbara Bush's 17 grandchildren met in Aggieland over the weekend for a celebration and family reunion, honoring their grandparents' birthdays at a place they held dear. High winds cancelled plans for 12 Bush grandchildren to skydive onto museum grounds, but it was still one of the largest Bush family reunions since 2018.

Ten years ago today, George H. W. Bush completed his sixth post-war parachute jump to celebrate his 85th birthday. An important feat, it showed that people of any age can accomplish their goals.

“You still get a charge out of it. Not easy to do at eighty-five," Bush told Robin Meade of CNN Headline News. "Secondly, just because you’re old, that doesn’t mean you can’t do fun stuff. And you don't want to sit around drooling in the corner. And so it’s a wonderful release. Because I was president, it sends a message.”

Happy 95th birthday, Mr. President! George Herbert Walker Bush was born on June 12, 1924. On his 18th birthday, following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Navy to fight in World War II. In fact, George Bush briefly explored joining the Royal Canadian Air Force first because you did not have to wait to turn 18, and could join the war effort faster. Mr. Bush was determined to join the fight. “We gotta do something about this one,” as he later described his mindset.

Gary has been a passionate advocate for America’s defenders for nearly 40 years. It was on this day 40 years ago - May 1, 1979 - that George H. W. declared his first candidacy for President of the United States. Although Ronald Reagan would win the GOP nomination and Mr. Bush eventually became Vice President, it set him on the path to becoming President which saw a series of transformative events: freedom prevailed in the Cold War as the Soviet Union imploded; the Berlin Wall “fell” and Germany united within NATO following 45 years of postwar division; and from Eastern Europe to the Baltic states to Latin America to the former Soviet republics, many liberal democracies supplanted totalitarian regimes. He also signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into Law and signed the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 which has guided America's environmental policy for more than two decades.
