All are invited to the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum carriage barn on Sunday, June 7th at 1:30pm, when author Maureen Holtz will share a selection of captivating photographs (a number provided by the C.H. Moore Homestead & DeWitt County Museum) and stories from her newest book, "Images of America: DeWitt County." Her presentation will include “slices of history from Clinton, Farmer City, Wapella, Waynesville, Kenney, Hallsville, Weldon, and Weldon Springs” as she discusses the many images she included in the book which help to tell the stories of “the remarkable people and memorable places that contribute to the county’s rich and diverse heritage.” The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session as well as the opportunity to have a book signed by the author.
This is a FREE event; courtesy of the DeWitt County Museum Association and sponsors of "America 250 at the Homestead: Celebrating 250 Years of American History."
The book, which was released by Arcadia Publishing last April, is currently available for purchase through the Museum Gift Shop ($24.99) and will also be available for purchase at the book signing event. All books purchased through the Museum Gift Shop will directly benefit the museum.
For more information regarding this or any of the other America 250 at the Homestead events taking place each month through the end of this milestone year, please call the museum at 217-935-6066.

As part of this year’s America 250 at the Homestead series of events, the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum is preparing a special twist on a beloved tradition! In honor of the nation’s semi quincentennial, quilts proudly displayed during this year’s annual quilt show will celebrate America’s 250th year.
During the first few weeks of May, the museum will be seeking loaned quilts which follow the 2026 theme "America 250 at the Homestead." Quilts of red, white, and/or blue color schemes (including traditional blue & white, red & white, or all one color); patriotic, colonial, or Americana-themed quilts; quilts incorporating a block, border, or embellishments such as flags, eagles, American presidents, historical figures, or landmarks, stars, apple pie, etc. will be sought as well as predominantly red, white and blue fabric quilts. We welcome antique, vintage, and contemporary quilts.
The FINAL day to bring your quilt(s) to the museum for inclusion in the quilt show is May 26th.
This special exhibition will be a highlight of our America 250 at the Homestead programming, and community participation is what will make it truly shine! Please share this invitation with friends, family, quilt guilds, and anyone who might enjoy contributing to this patriotic showcase. For more information, please contact the museum at 217-935-6066.
