Veranda Rodgers, MBA is a nonprofit guru and development leader with proven fundraising, strategic marketing and innovation solutions to serve vulnerable populations. Pregnant at 16 could have been the story to derail Veranda’s life, however that experience shaped her desire to provide culturally competent sexual health education, perinatal support, tools and techniques that confront the racial disparities in Black women’s maternal health. Veranda founded Pregnant with Possibilities Resource Center (PPRC) in 2015 securing over 1 million dollars to expand a home office to a brick-and-mortar resource facility!

Have you heard about the Friends of the African American Philanthropy Committee? This initiative was developed to engage philanthropic minded individuals to support and serve as ambassadors for the African American Philanthropy Committee of the Cleveland Foundation.
Described an “idea whisperer,” brings unbridled imagination and a gift for harnessing wild ideas to her work as a writer, public speaker and consultant on various projects and events in the philanthropic sector.
Valaida is the award-winning author of Giving Back, a 400-page hardcover book profiling stories of philanthropy among African Americans that was developed with photographer Charles Thomas.
Since the release of Giving Back, Valaida is recognized a thought leader on African American philanthropy and community-led philanthropy and is frequently invited by a variety of groups to write, talk and consult on the topic.

About The Soul of Philanthropy (TSOP)
The Soul of Philanthropy (TSOP) reframes portraits of philanthropy. Comprising highly innovative presentations of over a dozen vignette stories and more than 50 black-and-white images, the exhibition conjures philanthropic musings across generations. Created by Valaida Fullwood A robust offering of talks, panel discussions and public forums accompany the exhibition and allow groups to explore a broad range of topics to ignite a movement of conscious philanthropy by empowering a generation of Americans to recognize their power and responsibility to give back.
About The Soul of Philanthropy Cleveland (TSOPCLE)
The characteristics, impact, and legacy of African-American charitable giving is an untold narrative in the story of American philanthropy. Black communities have significant giving power. Two-thirds of Black households give $11 billion charitable dollars. Despite Black households just having six percent of the wealth of white households, they give twenty-five percent more than their white counterparts. Traditional philanthropy does not account for the many informal giving pathways that African-American communities participate in, and tend to overlook people of color in traditional giving spaces.
TSOPCLE, is a collaboration of volunteer activists and philanthropists in greater Cleveland united to create a vehicle that educates and informs about the rich history of African-American charitable giving while also creating a vehicle of philanthropy that galvanizes and empowers communities of color.
The TSOPCLE exhibition will represent the Cleveland community and remain after the national TSOP exhibition has ended. The Cleveland exhibition will present a collection of historic and contemporary stories and imagery about the philanthropic endeavors of African Americans in our region.

The Cleveland Black Equity and Humanity Fund (CBEHF) is one of a number of sustainable outcomes resulting from the 2019 Soul of Philanthropy Cleveland exhibition. The vision is a sustainable fund, seeded by African Americans and community allies that can support and facilitate philanthropic investment in causes and issues that promote and support Black-led social and economic change throughout northeast Ohio.
The fund endeavors to encourage the development and focus of institutional, political, and philanthropic influence in Cleveland’s Black community. The Cleveland Black Equity and Humanity Fund (CBEHF) intends to address the specific issues impacting the Black community while expanding the capacity for multiracial coalitions to engage in issues of racial, social, and economic justice. The desired outcome of the CBEHF’s activities and investments is the inclusion and empowerment of a thriving community of color; a community positioned to be an active, impactful partner, joined with those entities involved in planning and executing the resurgence of community in and around Cleveland, Ohio.
The Cleveland Black Equity and Humanity Fund will be managed by, and funds distributed at the direction of, a group of local civic leaders and community stakeholders. The fund will be professionally invested by local investment managers and disbursed by United Black Fund.
