Baseball Heritage Museum Mission of the Baseball Heritage Museum: Preserve and present the stories of diversity in baseball.
(39)

At the Baseball Heritage Museum, the public will be able to experience their stories, photographs, letters, programs, uniforms and other game-used treasured memorabilia detailing the important contributions from the Latin and Caribbean leagues, the Industrial and Barnstormer leagues and the Negro and Women’s leagues that helped shape the history of the great American pastime. A note from Vern Full

er

How much do you really know about our national pastime? The Baseball Heritage Museum is more than just baseball stories. It is a real education on former players and coaches connected with the rich diversity of our nation’s pastime. I sincerely hope you will bring your family and friends to experience the colorful history of the great game of baseball. Please help lead the effort to secure the preservation of our national pastime. The Origin of the Museum

Robert Zimmer started displaying artifacts from the Negro Baseball League in his jewelry store in downtown Cleveland during the 1997 All-Star game. “It was going to be a one-weekend event to help draw people into my jewelry store,” he said, “But so many customers were really interested in the history of baseball that it became a passion for me.”

Now, thanks to the support of organizations like the Gund Foundation, the Cleveland Foundation, Cleveland Indians, the historic Gateway District and private donors– Zimmer has secured 4000 square feet of space in the Cleveland’s League Park to house the Basebal Heritage Museum. Here the public will be able to experience the stories, photographs, letters, programs, uniforms and other game-used treasured memorabilia detailing the important contributions from the Latin and Caribbean leagues, the Industrial and Barnstormer leagues and the Negro and Women’s leagues that helped shape the history of the great American pastime. Mission

The mission of the museum is to preserve and present the history of diversity in baseball by entertaining, educating, and enlightening the visiting public about the multicultural heritage of baseball and the values it represents.

Bill Veeck brought a lot of fun to the game, and 75 years ago he also brought a World Series title to Cleveland with his HOF cast of Satchel Paige, Bob Feller, Larry Doby, Bob Lemon, Joe Gordon and Lou Boudreau.

Lucille Ball wearing a Cleveland Indians uniform with Bob Hope in a 1956 episode of "I Love Lucy".

The sleeve patch is a few years old by this point and the oddball custom cap combines the old sleeve patch (instead of "Chief Wahoo") with a much larger C than was actually used.

On July 12, 2021, Shohei Ohtani became the first Japanese born player and starting pitcher to participate in the HR Derby.

Ohtani is a special player, and has even drawn comparisons to Babe Ruth by being a solid pitcher and a heavy power hitter.

The derby took place at Coors Field, a HR hitters dream. The ball absolutely sails in that field and there were plenty of moonshots that night.

Ohtani is still early in his career and what he has done is nothing short of amazing. If he keeps this up there is no doubt in my mind that he will go down as one of this generations best players.

This Day in Baseball History, July 11:

On July 11, 1914 Babe Ruth made his MLB debut at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox as their starting pitcher. The Sox squared up against the Cleveland Naps that day and it was a pretty tight game. Ruth and the Sox would go on to win the game by a score of 4-3.

Ruth’s final pitching stats read: 7 IP, 8 Hits, 3 Runs, 2 Errors and 1 Strikeout. A pretty solid performance for a 19 year old making his debut.

A special thank you to the Baseball Heritage Museum for highlighting Hinchliffe Stadium. In case you missed last night's live broadcast, feel free to follow the link.

https://fb.watch/fHxrPzsGW9/

Tonight at 6:00 p.m., Hinchliffe Stadium will be the topic of conversation on The Baseball Heritage Museum's podcast, "Talking Baseball," with host Justice Hill via Facebook Live.

The Baseball Heritage Museum is located at League Park, in Cleveland, Ohio. The Museum is dedicated to preserving the artifacts and stories of baseball’s past with a special focus on diversity in the sport.

Be certain that this Cleveland centric podcast will have a strong focus on, non-other than, Larry Doby!

Although Hinchliffe Stadium opened it's doors on July 8, 1932, on this date, September 17, 1932, Hinchliffe Stadium held its ceremonial opening. During this event, Eleanor Egg, a Paterson track star who qualified to compete in the Olympics, was honored by having a bronze relief placed inside of Hinchliffe Stadium. This masterpiece was created by famed Paterson artist Gaetano Federici.

In honor of Hinchliffe Stadium's 90th anniversary there are some podcasts and virtual presentations being offered.

On Monday, September 19th at 6:00 p.m., The Ballpark Hunter Podcast, will post a show on Hinchliffe Stadium. Follow this link to listen: https://anchor.fm/ballparkhunter.

On Wednesday, September 21st at 6:00 p.m., the Baseball Heritage Museum will host a show about Hinchliffe Stadium on the museum's Facebook Live Stream.

On Tuesday, September 27th at 7pm, the The Paterson Museum and The Paterson Museum Foundation will be hosting a presentation on Hinchliffe Stadium via Zoom.
