Welcome to my website on my book THE COLLINWOOD SCHOOL FIRE OF 1908. I am EDWARD (SONNY) KERN who wrote the book and lost 4 family membes on March 4,1908 the day of the fire. This school fire took the lives of 172 children,2 teachers and 1 collinwood resident. I spent 7 years sifting through tons of newspaper clippings and photographs from public and private archives and conducted interviews with the last 3 survivors of the tragedy years ago that killed 175 people. This is a detailed and devastating account of the fire that killed 175 victims--most of them school children under 14 years of age--and stunned the world and changed safety laws.
