There is so much going on in this photo! It was Ma Hummels store...and at this particular time, Don George was going in here and wanting a sign permit! But what was Route 268???
Read below!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_State_Route_268_(1934%E2%80%931974)

New York State Route 268 (NY 268) was a state highway in northeastern Erie County, New York, in the United States. It served as a connector between NY 5 in the town of Clarence and NY 78 at the Clarence–Amherst town line. The route passed through rural areas of the town of Clarence and did not serve any areas of significant development. The northern portion of NY 268 followed the southern bank of Tonawanda Creek.

Our November Program continues to focus on the Erie Canal and the impact it made!

On this day in 1825, The Erie Canal, one of America’s first great transportation routes, officially opened! The opening of the Erie Canal connected the Buffalo harbor to the Hudson River in Albany. In a grand ceremony, New York State Governor DeWitt Clinton poured a barrel of Lake Erie water into the New York harbor, marking the completion of the canal and a new Era in American History. This commemorative barrel was made for and used in ceremonies marking the Erie Canal's centennial anniversary. See it for yourself in our Continuum exhibit!

True followers came out tonight to hear Rick Falkowski give an excellent program! Back in March, Rick had a special speaker with him, Hugh Neeson...Hugh was 89 years old and gave a great talk about his passion of Larry Bell's Legacy: Aerospace Pioneering. Sadly, Rick informed the group that Hugh passed away 2 weeks ago. We are so grateful we could give Hugh a stage for his talk. We know Hugh was watching over Rick tonight.
