HEROES IN HISTORY

🇺🇲 WW II uncovered 101st Airborne: Sergeant Donald Malarkey: Easy Company♠️
Technical Sergeant Don Malarkey, of Astoria Oregon, was a NCO with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army.
In 1942, while a freshman at the University of Oregon, Malarkey was drafted into the Army, where he volunteered to become a paratrooper. During the early morning hours on D-Day, June 6, 1944, Malarkey parachuted behind enemy lines in support of the Allied Invasion. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery in destroying German artillery in the Battle of Brecourt Manor later that day.
"He fought for twenty-three days in Normandy, nearly eighty in the Netherlands, thirty-nine in the Battle of Bastogne in Belgium, and thirty more in and around Haguenau, France, and the Ruhr Pocket in Germany. He was promoted to sergeant before Operation Market Garden. Malarkey, who was never seriously wounded, served more consecutive time on the front lines than any other member of Easy Company. Malarkey was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Croix de Guerre, in addition to many others."
Don returned to Oregon after the war and received a Business Degree from the University of Oregon. He later moved to Portland, Oregon where he became a real estate and insurance agent.
Following the death of Sergeant Paul Rogers on March 16, 2015, Don Malarkey became the oldest surviving member of Easy Company. Don passed away on September 30, 2017 at the age of 96. Sergeant Don Malarkey lies in rest at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland Oregon. Lest We Forget.
Sgt. Don Malarkey was portrayed in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers by Scott Grimes. For additional information we recommend the book: Easy Company Soldier: The Legendary Battles of a Sergeant from World War II's "Band of Brothers" by Don Malarkey, Bob Welch
