🌕 Stargazers, check out the annual Full Buck Moon this Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Fun fact: It's called the "Full Buck Moon" because male bucks' antlers grow at a fast rate during this time.

Because the moon peaks during daylight hours, look for it rising after sunset in the southeast

Happy moon viewing! 🌝

🐦‍⬛ Did you know: A raven's intelligence is comparable to an ape's! 🦧

These smart birds are mimics and can copy human words and animal noises.

Ravens can also remember faces for years, so be kind to any you encounter!

If you want to see one in person, come meet animal ambassador Edgar at the Chico Creek Nature Center.

Fun Fact Friday: 🐕 Dogs and foxes are technically related, like canine cousins. 🦊

And they've been known to befriend each other—like a pair in Norway named Tinni and Sniffer.

Chico is home to foxes, so be on the lookout!

🦋 Where do butterflies live?

They can be found in Chico's very own western sycamore trees!

These special trees—which can grow up to 115 feet tall and 50 feet wide—host the western tiger swallowtail butterfly and provide shelter for bugs, bats, birds, and humans alike.

Their bark also has a unique "camo" appearance—when it peels, it reveals white, grey, and beige colors below. 🌳

If you want to see one in person, come visit the Chico Creek Nature Center!

We're in the dog days of summer now! 🐕 ☀️

Ancient cultures dubbed the period from July 3rd to August 11th the "Dog Days of Summer" in honor of the Dog Star (Sirius).

Even back then, dog days = hot, hot, hot!

Luckily, CARD's Nature Center has ways to keep you cool and entertained during this time:

☃️ Chill in the AC and explore cool creatures at the Janeece Webb Living Animal Museum.
🌲 Reserve Kristie's Nature Lab, where visitors can explore local flora and fauna up close, indoors!
💦 Campers can enjoy water activities, animal visits, and more at Camp Chico Creek!

It's easy to beat the heat and have fun with CARD this summer!
