Serbian American Museum St. Sava Serbian American Museum St. Sava, formerly known as Serbian Cultural and Arts Center St. Sava, was founded in Chicago in 1952. Thanks to generous contributions of its members, the house at 448 West Barry Avenue was purchased the same year, which later became, and still remains, the Serbian Home.

U Srpsko-američkom muzeju sveti Sava u Čikagu je otvorena izložba crteža i ilustracija Dragana Miškovića, likovnog umetnika i kustosa Muzeja afričke umetnosti u Beogradu i održana prezentacija knjige “Megalona” Borka Jovanovića, autora kratkih pozorišnih dela, priča i poezije, inače profesora na Northwestern univerzitetu.

PROGRAM FOR THE AFTERNOON

1:00 PM: Start of Reception

1:30 PM: Lecture: The Nemanjic Dynasty and Their Role in the Development of Serbia during the Medieval Period by Ognjen Brkljac, HISTORIAN

2:15 PM: Visitation of Museum Exhibits

2:30 Presentation of South Serbian Cultural Traditions - Food & Music - by Gordana Ristic, CULTURAL MANAGER

3:00 PM: Degustation of Food and Drinks. Some of the food that will be served is: 'Sopska' salad, summer 'trljanica' salad, 'urnebes', beans with garlic, 'samsa' - Vranje empty pie, 'sarma' - staffed pickled cabage leaves, 'muckalica'- stew with pork and roasted peppers, Serbian moussaka, potato burgers, sudzuk, etc.

Dukati and Biseri Folklore Ensemble will serve as entertainment for the afternoon, with a few songs from Vranje.

OGNJEN BRKLJAC

Ognjen Brkljac is a graduated historian from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philosophy. During his studies, Ognjen's main focus was on the study of Serbia during the medieval period. Prior to his studies, he was a professional volleyball player. In 2003, Ognjen suffered an injury that left him paralyzed. After his studies at the university, he continued to research Serbian history during the time of the Nemanjic dynasty.

GORDANA RISTIC

Gordana Ristic is a non-profit activist working in the field of art & culture, peace building, human rights and youth in the wider region of the Balkans in the last 14 years. She runs a Vranje-based NGO Generator since 2001. Gordana was the vocal in VED, an ethno-band from Vranje in early 2000 and has been working with Roma brass musicians since 2008. She was the coordinator of music, theatre and documentary film festivals, art exhibitions, workshops, seminars and conferences in Serbia and the rest of Europe.
