This week’s TNL Weekly (Tuesday Night Listening) is dedicated to Chinese rock and punk songs from the 90s to the early 2000s, a brief era where people in the country enjoyed some extent of freedom of speech. Songs are selected based on their subjects and merits. Some are highly politicized and revolutionary, others lean toward social realism and cynicism. Presenting a variety of styles and making sure that female voices are included were also part of the consideration.

Unfortunately not all lyrics are available in English at the moment. Translation can be provided by TNL upon request. Just DM us :)

Please see Story to find the Spotify playlist. There will be a YouTube playlist to come to substantiate this collection.

This playlist is titled β€œRed Cloth, White Paper,” borrowing from Cui Jian’s song β€œA piece of red cloth” and chiming with the current ✊

Hope you enjoy! πŸ“£

But the β€œmerge,” as the transition to a proof-of-stake protocol is being called, has not helped the value of the cryptocurrency, and scammers took advantage of the hype.

πŸŽ‰At the occasion of his solo exhibition, Control Signals, at The Latent Space, TNL spoke with Chicago-based artist and educator James Connolly to uncover the concepts behind this hypnotic exhibition.

"To me, cathode ray tubes are the antithesis of the contemporary electronic devices we use daily in 2022...Our smartphones, tablets, watches and the apps and software they run on are mysterious black boxes that give us access to unprecedented information, but contain hidden functionalities that track, surveil, control, and monetize us in ways we can’t comprehend...[CRTs] can be prepared, hacked, cracked, modified, and repurposed for aesthetic or conceptual reasons, and there is no user agreement you are violating by jailbreaking them to behave in new ways. I like the freedom they offer aesthetically and what they signify politically in the era of data capitalism and the surveillance state."

Don't miss out the upcoming programs organized by the artist: A DIY audio/video synthesis workshop will take place tomorrow on Sunday, August 21 at 2:00 pm. Control Signals Performances #2 will take place on the closing day, Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 8:30pm.
