We are devastated to learn of the death of Sterling Tate, one of our Lawndale Legends who graced the front of our museum for several months over the winter. It was amazing to meet Sterling and interview him, and so great to meet his family at his portrait unveiling. What a persevering and positive spirit despite his difficulties.

His oral history has been preserved in the National Archives and the National Museum of African America History and Culture thanks to StoryCorps. You can listen to a short version of it on the page we set up last year https://www.lawndalepopupspot.org/lawndalelivinghistory/sterlingtate

Our prayers go out to Pearl’s loved ones - he had so many. 😢
