General information

I worked for the c.w.I. railroad in 1979 & 1980 hired 1st as leverman/telephone/ operator 1 month later they asked me to become a : trainman/ switch tender. fall of 1979: they abolished the switchtender job at Pullman junction due to the beltrailway installing c.t.c. there. the boss's felt bad to have gave me a job only to be laid off and I was reassigned to the 5 tower system on the extra board. they later got me a job with the i.h.b. rr in dec 1980.

This is the one-time 47th St Tower of the C&WI in Chicago. Operations on the C&WI (23rd-74th St) were already under control of a Dispatcher at Metra's Consolidated Control Facility and the tower did not have long for this world when I took this photo in the Summer of 1999. View looks N/W.
I worked as a leverman (extra board) for about 2 1/2 years 1965,1966. Worked all the towers 12th Street, 18th Street, 21st Street, 47 Street, 74th Street, 81st Street, Pullman Junction, The Bridge, & State Line. Also was training to be a Train Dispatcher. September 1967 I could see the hand writing on the wall, no future, the railroad was about to die do to automation. My Father In Law Frank Diehl was a Baggage Foreman @ Dearborn Station whom spoke for me to get hired.
I have about 700 unused tickets for this railroad all different , anyone interested if I decide to sell them ?
I've had this photo for years, not sure what it is .
Info on reefer.
Found this pic, and the one following, online. The photographer said that it was just before they filled in the C&WI where it passed under the CRI&P bridges around 18th. Needless to say, the story is that they bulldozed the cars into scrap, then buried everything.
16th St Tower from the Rock
Found this photo online (Someplace dealing with C&EI). Question: Since that structure to the left appears to be the southern end of the Erie/EL/Lifschultz freight house, would the tower be the C&WI 15th Street?
