Cherokee County Historical Museum

The Museum is housed in a 1920's 3 story general store in downtown Centre, Al. With around 15,000 artifacts, exhibits are varied, fun, and interactive. Spend some time in our internet cafe, or bring your kids to play and learn.
Please note- this page has been hacked and the admin deleted and we have been unable to get Facebook to respond to any help requests. We are continuing to work on the issue but a new page may have to be created.
The Museum will be closed on Friday April 14th for Good Friday. We wish you and yours a Blessed Easter Season.
Our next craft class will be the last Wednesday in the Month April 26, noon until 2pm at the Museum. Come prepared to be outside weather permitting you will be making Mosaic stepping stones. For the summer classes all money made will go toward the Museum's Electrical fund. Members $15.00, non members $20.00.
Thank you to all the ladies that have attended our craft classes since February 2016. Most times Martha and Sandy donate the materials used, as a result we were able to deposit $340 in our electrical campaign account, we are almost at $4000 of our $14,000 goal. This is huge, thank you again to this great community that supports the museum.Thank you also to Martha and Sandy and the great job they do!!!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone knows anyone that washes windows, please have them call the museum - Thank you

Civitan will have their annual Chili supper this Saturday the 24th at a new location at the ROC starting at 6pm. There will be live entertainment and lots of door prizes, not to mention the cake walk. Come join Civitan as they raise money for many worthwhile community projects.

Upcoming craft class March 29th noon until, Members $15, non-members $20. This months class will be decoupaging gift, memory, keepsake boxes or serving trays. We will have materials on hand or you can bring your favorite box and or keepsake items to include pictures and cards to personalize them. Tell a friend or family member that you think would enjoy the class and fellowship. Bring a new guest and they can get in for half price. Look forward to seeing you on the 29th.
Bobby Shuttleworth with Bobby's Bama WAFF 48 news out of Decatur Al, was at the museum today to film a segment on the Museum airing March 10th at 4pm. Unfortunately this is not aired locally, but can be pulled up after 7pm on the 10th at [email protected].
The Museum is selling raffle tickets for Lions Club International Foundation Disaster Relief. They are raffling a Henry Rifle Golden Boy .22, tickets are $5.00 each or 5 tickets for $20.00. I understand that this fund has given several grants to our area after disasters. Come support this worthwhile cause,

We have Lion's Pancake Breakfast tickets at the museum for sale, only $5.00 for a great organization. March 18th at the ROC all you can eat!!!!!!!
Martha has been working really hard on getting our Cherokee Indian Warrior ready for display. Most everything is hand made with detailed research to be as authentic as possible. We are still working on the Indian Maiden but our warrior looks great. Come see us soon, bring the kids, they will love this display, Help us name our Warrior!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring your suggestions,
On March 17th from 9am to 10am ABC 3340 news will have a live feed at Little River Marina, several attractions in Centre have been invited to participate, I believe this is a cooking show. Please tune in. As always thank you for your support.

A great time was had by all yesterday at our craft class. Classes are held the last Wednesday of the month from noon to 2pm. Plan to join in the fun
Leadership Cherokee's community project is education about rare childhood diseases. We are pre-selling T-shirts to donate for research as well as a donation to help families out of UAB Children's hospital with expenses. Please come by the Museum, call 256-927-7835 or email us your order [email protected]. YM-Adult XL is $10.00, XXL $12.00 and larger T-Shirts are $13.00 each. Need orders and money by next Tuesday January 24th if possible.
Our 2nd annual tea will be Saturday February 11th noon to 3pm. Come join us for crafts and fashion show. Music provided by Steven Blalock and catered by Sageberry Restaurant. Children 12 and under free with each paying adult. Members $20.00, non-members $25.00. Tickets are for sale at the Museum, please RSVP by February 3rd. DON'T MISS THIS AWESOME EVENT!!!!!!

Lisa Cochran who works at the Museum through the Senior Program is embarking on the task of creating a cookbook for the museum as a fund raiser. We hope to have this completed and ready for sale by Mothers Day. This community cookbook will have recipes from all that submit, some with pictures. Your participation would really help to make this a success. Digging back to moms, grandmother, aunts, etc would make this venture even more fun. We are hoping to have all entries in by February 6th, please no originals! Drop by, email at [email protected], or mail to 101 E Main St Centre 35960. As always we appreciate your participation. Don't forget to include the name on the entry and a little something about that person. Business Card ads are available at $35.00.

We certainly hope each of you had a great holiday season. The clubs are taking down their decorations so the museum is looking a little sad. We have several projects going for 2017 and hope that each of you will come by to watch our progress. Again we could not maintain without each and every one of your support.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! The Lions Club are the winners of the Christmas decoration contest this year. They earned a check for $87.50. We would like to thank all the groups that decorated, it was fun and the Museum looked great. The winners in order were: Lions Club, Rotary, 20th Century Club, Women's Club of Weiss Lake, Master Gardeners, Chamber, and Garden Club. The museum still has several items for sale to help you round out your Christmas list. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to each and everyone of you and yours. God Bless Us All
Thank you to the retired teachers of Cherokee County for having their Christmas Party at the Museum today. Great group and food. Also Thank you for your generous donation to the museum.
The trees are decorated and waiting on you to vote on your favorite!!!!!!!! Deadline to vote is Friday December 16th. The museum will be closed on Friday the 23rd and 30th for the upcoming holidays. Mike Raglands new book Living with Lucy is at the museum, $12.00 ea, this is a great book for children and a stocking stuffer. Get yours while they last,
The movie Hacksaw Ridge will be playing this weekend at the Drive In Fridays, Saturday and Sunday. The museum will have the Desmond T Doss Exhibit up until December 21st and have books about his life free as long as they last. The Drive In will be handing out free admission tickets to the Museum for this exhibit.
The Museum was awarded a Tillotson-Menlo Grant to complete several exhibits and start a new one. More details to follow

Christmas decorations are under way and the museum is certainly taking on the spirit of the season as well as the spirit of this community. Come by to vote for your favorite club or organization. Those participating are: Lions, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Rose Garden Club, Weiss Lake Women's Club, McCord's Cross Road Homemakers, Twentieth Century Club, and the Cherokee County Master Gardeners.
Thank you to all our veterans!!!!!!!! Also thank the Civitan Club and the Cities of Centre and Leesburg for a great display of flags!!!!!!!!!!
