Josephine Baker et Des Afro-Descendants de Paris offrent un petit geste de respect pour Joséphine Baker, et nous vous invitons à nous rejoindre pour une veillée musicale communautaire aux chandelles honorant le premier anniversaire de l'intronisation de Joséphine Baker au Panthéon. Lors de cet événement, nous lui rendrons hommage en chantant "Lift Every Voice and Sing" (The Black National Anthem USA) & J'ai Deux Amour". Nous rendrons également hommage et ferons preuve de solidarité envers les personnes qui souffrent et se battent pour faire le monde. mieux: solidarité avec les femmes d'Iran, et contre la violence et les injustices envers les femmes du monde entier, la communauté noire et POC et leurs alliés de tous âges, dont la vie a été perdue ou est en danger à cause du racisme en Amérique et dans le monde, ainsi alors que les personnes LGBTQIA+ vivent perdues et en danger à cause de l'homophobie au Colorado et dans le monde.

Josephine Baker et Des Afro-Descendants de Paris offers a small gesture of respect for Josephine Baker, and we invites you to join us for a Candlelight Community Musical Vigil honoring the first year anniversary of Josephine Baker’s induction into the Pantheon. At this event we will pay homage to her through singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (The Black National Anthem USA) & J’ai Deux Amour” We will also pay homage and show solidarity towards to people suffering and fighting to make the world better: solidarity with the Women of Iran, and against violence and injustices towards women world wide, the Black and POC community and their Allie’s of many ages, whose lives have been lost or are in danger because of racism in America and internationally, as well as the LGBTQIA+ lives lost and in danger because of homophobia in Colorado and internationally.

One of my favorite pieces in my collection…Just a reminder of their great efforts… for starters: 🇫🇷 En 1914-1918, lors de la Première Guerre mondiale, ce sont environ 200 000 « Sénégalais » de l'AOF qui se battent sous le drapeau français, dont plus de 135 000 en Europe. [In 1914-1918, 🇺🇸during the First World War, around 200,000 “Senegalese” from the AOF fought under the French flag, including more than 135,000 in Europe.], and Many African Americans served under the Services of Supply section of the American Expeditionary Forces. This section comprised of stevedore, labor, and engineers service battalions and companies. The main function of these companies was to support and provide materials to other companies along the front.

The notable exception were the soldiers who fought on the front lines in the 92nd and 93rd Infantry Divisions. The 369th Infantry Regiment, known as the Harlem Hellfighters, were assigned to the French Army in April 1918. In this post the Hellfighters saw much action, fighting in the Second Battle of the Marne, as well as the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. For his valiant and brave actions during World War I, Private Henry Johnson became the first American to receive the Criox de Guerre, and an additional 170 members of the 369th were also awarded the French medal.

The 370th Infantry Regiment, given the name "Black Devils" by Germans, were also assigned to the French Army. This was the only unit to be commanded by Black officers. Corporal Freddie Stowers was a standout soldier among the 371st Infantry. During the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Stowers lead troops through a German line in spite of receiving mortal wounds. He was recommended for the Medal of Honor shortly after his death, but it was not processed and awarded until 1991. ( ) My grandfather was a US Soldier here in France. Private Garrett Page Bagley. HAPPY 101 Broadway Birthday “Shuffle Along,” which premiered on Broadway at the 63rd Street Music Hall in 1921, running for 504 performances, a remarkably successful span for that decade. It launched the careers of Josephine Baker, Blanche Calloway, Adelaide Hall, Florence Mills, Fredi Washington and Paul Robeson, and was so popular it caused "curtain time traffic jams" on West 63rd Street. For those of you who participated in the ´ first Josephine Baker Day (May 20th) to be held in Paris; you had a special treat that connects to this very special day (May 23rd); when you had the opportunity to hear the amazing 95 year old Camay Calloway Murphy (daughter of Cab Calloway) as she spoke about her Aunt Blanche Calloway and Josephine Baker performing together in Shuffle Along, her gift to the and to add to the joy honoring Josephine Baker and her father who were both lauded by the French and the world when she sang to us « La Marseillaise » Thank you

ALL THE PRESSE IS TALKING: Janelle Monáe is set to star as pioneering entertainer Josephine Baker in an upcoming series that focuses on the singer’s turn as a French Resistance spy for the Allies during World War 2.
A24 and Monáe’s production house Wondaland will produce De La Resistance, with Deadline reporting that multiple streaming services are vying for the show. This is one of my favorite acquisitions presented It takes me back to the time of when I was living in New York City studying at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and I would visit quite often the Library of Congress doing research about vogue dancing and Josephine Baker. I still see myself sitting in the little cubby absolutely fascinated by Josephine Baker‘s acting skills. No it was Josephine Baker second film it was the first that I saw and was immediately hooked.
