We have FIVE DAYS left to close an increasingly small gap between the funding we have on hand and what we have to have on May 15th to purchase, protect, and program the last farm in our hometown for the benefit of the local community and to serve as a model for communities far and wide on how people can lead happier, healthier, more connected and sustainable lives. Your contribution makes a huge difference! We have just $24,000 to go! Thank you to each and every amazing person who is helping us to make this dream come true. We can't wait to serve the community from this special property! The best way to contribute right now is directly through our website - www.communityecologyinstitute.org.

After being inspired by the interest of this method on YouTube I decided to create a short 1 minute video outlining how you can grow potatoes the lazy way without having to do things like dig trenches. This is a fantastic method because the mulch breaks down which in makes a healthier soil for the potatoes to grow in. It is also easier for the potatoes to grow and swell as they don't need to push against heavy soil. I hope you get a chance to try this method out in 2018 and enjoy peeling back the mulch to reveal beautiful potatoes.

Folks, a huge limb fell on the garden fence. It is from an ash tree that may have damage from the borers. Jay is communicating with the county about the problem. Stay tuned.

FYI, the water hydrant had to be shut off over the winter because of a leak. The county is working on fixing the problem, but it's going to require digging. If you need water, the closest access is the spigot on the back of the Banneky house (stone house) near the rain barrel.

Gardeners, it's almost time! Please let me know Yes or No (via comment or PM or email) if you plan to keep your plot for this year. If I do not hear from you by March 1, I will assume you do not want your plot and reassign it.

This year, Jay is going to install some new numbers in the plots. You will have to stop by Jay's store to pay the fee and initial by your plot on the map to verify the plot location. This is to avoid the mix-ups we encountered last year.

If you are a new gardener interested in a plot for 2017, please PM us!

Cheers!

Amanda
