The presence of so many Consul General offices in Atlanta is part of what makes Georgia a strong state for economic development. It was our honor to have 38 guests including members of Atlanta’s Consul General Corp representing 27 different countries, spend time in northwest Georgia this week and Bartow County this morning. The Georgia Department of Economic Development organized the event, coordinating with the Cartersville-Bartow County Department of Economic Development for many of the Bartow details.

The group experienced an overnight stay and dining at Barnsley Gardens Resort, a personal tour of the Booth Western Art Museum by Seth Hopkins, and insight into Phoenix Air Group via Dent Thompson and his team. A highlight for guests included meeting artist Ross Rossin at the Booth Museum and hearing him describe his vision of ‘peaceful transition of power’ that has become the Presidential portraits project that the Booth calls the ‘Commanders in Chief’ exhibition. Another highlight was hearing from experts at Phoenix Air Group describe the international medical rescue missions they are capable of, and what differentiates the company in their global service. The world-class hospitality of Barnsley Gardens was appropriate for this group of VIP’s and generated many compliments by visitors.

Melinda Lemmon, Executive Director of the Cartersville-Bartow County Department of Economic Development shared, “The group was able to experience some of the diversity and international connections throughout the region. Cartersville-Bartow County was honored to be Georgia’s 2017 International Community, and I believe the delegates were pleasantly surprised to experience a few of the reasons why. We are grateful for everyone’s effort in affording the opportunity, especially Commissioner Pat Wilson and his team at the Georgia Department of Economic Development. It’s an absolute pleasure to have resources like Barnsley, Booth and Phoenix Air to represent Bartow. The Consul Generals can be invaluable in the support of the international companies we have in common. We want to continue to share cultures and build relationships, and we certainly are glad they visited.” #GAVIPTour

Oh the power of water! Never take for granted what we enjoy at Allatoona Lake each summer. The lake has a great purpose in flood control and power generation.

It's Throwback Thursday!

In April 1964, during historic rainfalls and flooding, Allatoona Lake recorded its highest level ever recorded at 861.19 msl. To put this in perspective, recent flooding and high lake levels crested at just over 851.00 msl, a good 10 feet below the record.

Enjoy these pictures of known landmarks on the lake. In order, top to bottom, left to right;

5. Clark Creek Bridge
