Happy Birthday to Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.! A Cambridge native, Ollie grew up in a house just north of Harvard Yard. After graduating from Harvard College in 1829, he briefly studied law before turning to the medical profession. He was most well known as a poet; one of his most famous works, "Old Ironsides", published in 1830, was influential in the eventual preservation of the USS Constitution. His son, Junior became an associate Justice on the Supreme Court!
