🎨 Hispanic Culture Arts is proud to announce our 2026–2027 Arts Partnership Grant!

We are delighted to return to PS 396X in the Bronx through the Arts for Diverse Learners initiative, renewing a meaningful partnership with a school community with whom we have collaborated in the past through El patio de mi casa, serving lower-grade students and diverse learners.

For this new grant cycle, Hispanic Culture Arts will bring our artistic residency, “Bringing Paintings to Life,” to PS 396X. The residency is part of our museum education curriculum, which invites students to explore, interpret, and connect with the remarkable portraiture housed in the Hispanic Society Museum and Library.

We will also continue to place an important emphasis on the African diaspora in 17th- and 18th-century Latin American music and dance, expanding students’ understanding of the diverse cultural histories that have shaped Latin American artistic traditions.

We are especially pleased to continue this work in collaboration with Clement Mensah, Artistic Director of TIKoRO Arts, whose expertise and artistic practice bring an important dimension to this exploration.

The community oriented villancico song from Mexico, “Convidando esta la noche” by Francisco Zepeda, brings together music, dance and visual art in conversation . We were inspired to program and choreograph this piece by a 17th-century casta painting that is part of the collection of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library, by Mexican painter, Juan Rodriguez Juárez. Casta paintings were attempts to categorize the complex racial and cultural mixtures of colonial Mexico.

As artists, we are by nature, cultural interpreters; we take music, movement, stories and traditions - and we interpret them for an audience. Sometimes we are interpreting a culture, an experience, or even a moment in history that is not our own.

In the school assembly Folklore y Arte we explore: how cultures come together, influence one another and continue to evolve through art.

We can help to fulfill your requirements for Hispanic Heritage Celebration this fall! “Folklore y Arte” is a school assembly that explores the rich and folkloric traditions from the Spanish-speaking world, and discovers how these traditions transcend borders, travel across generations, and inspire new forms of music and dance. Our teaching artists for this assembly are: a costumed Spanish dance artist, a classical vocalist and classical guitarist. The countries showcased are Cuba, Spain and Mexico. From Poe Park in the Bronx to classrooms across New York City! 💃🏽🎶

Our performance “Danzas de Ida y Vuelta” celebrated the vibrant musical and dance traditions shaped by centuries of cultural exchange between Spain and the Americas.

That performance became the inspiration for our school assembly program, “Music and Dances from the Spanish Americas.”

Designed especially for students of lower grades and middle school, this engaging program brings Hispanic heritage to life through live music, traditional dances, cultural storytelling, and historical context—creating an experience that is both educational and unforgettable. 🌎✨

Since 2018, Hispanic Culture Arts has been developing and presenting Hispanic Heritage performing arts curriculum, helping schools introduce students to the richness, diversity, and history of Hispanic cultures through authentic artistic experiences.

We had the opportunity to work in 2024 Hunter College with Gabrielle Santo, then a senior at Hunter College aka 🎤 as our intern with Hispanic Culture Arts, in her last day, she led the class in one of her Spotify releases, with movement and dance. She’s seen her in action with students of PS347 School for the Deaf in NYC. Grateful for her artistry and empathy with our student!

Final Student Assembly at the Multi Cultural Fair at PS110 in Queens!

Our arts residency “El Patio de mi Casa” led the 4th grade students of PS110Q in an exploration of dances and songs from 🇩🇴Dominican Republic, 🇨🇴Colombia and 🇪🇸Spain.

Using percussion instruments, dance and song as storytelling, students found that their own backyards connect from their families, to across Latin America and Spain, via, food, language and rhythms.

The cultural fair on May 4 was standing room only, bringing in family members and the whole school community to enjoy the students accomplishments.
