The New England Carousel Museum

The New England Carousel Museum Visit us in Bristol. We host birthday parties & educational programming throughout the year! We look forward to your visit. The New England Carousel Museum was founded as a nonprofit educational organization in 1990, in Bristol, Connecticut.

At that time, the Carousel Museum rented 10,000 square feet of space on the first floor of the restored 33,000 sq. ft. factory building at 95 Riverside Avenue and owned one carousel horse for our collection. We displayed a diverse collection of carousel art and memorabilia all of which was on long-term loan to the Museum. The growth of the Carousel Museum over the past 21 years has been astounding

ACE GALA Meet the artists! Evangeline Stott. A visual artist and storyteller with desert roots and an East Coast heart. Evangeline will be live action painting throughout the Gala and her work will be the 4th part in our LIVE AUCTION! Evangeline uses her art to explore the connective tissue in relationships. Being an "actress turned artist" means that collaboration and connection are built into her operating system, and she uses this tool to better her work and community with each brush stroke. She works with the intention to create heirloom pieces that will mark a moment in time and be cherished for years to come. When not in the studio painting, you can find her sipping an iced chai and binging Gilmore Girls for the 13th time, or on a spontaneous road trip with friends. Thank you to the Bristol Arts and Culture commission for supporting our over 30 artists who will be performing November 6! www.thecarouselmuseum.org/ace gala #ACEGALA #necm #bristolct #artsinct

“Timeframes of Bristol” is a new walking tour of our city that features 16 stops of historic places in the downtown Bristol area. Featuring historic photos and the current perspective! Our home, the Bristol Manufacturing Company is featured as one of the stops! This building built in 1836 was located in what is now our lower parking lot and the granite stones on our property are former foundation stones for this building! Happy 50th anniversary to the Bristol Historical Society and thank you to Bristol’s Arts and Cultural Commission!

Carousel places for your bucket list! The famous Carousel Bar & Lounge in Hotel Monteleone is a long-time favorite New Orleans hotspot. I wanted to take a moment and thank Cate Mahoney for her dedication and commitment to the Carousel Museum this summer, throughout her tenure as the Museum’s Subject Specialist, and the past 3 years as a member of our Board of Trustees. Cate is one of the many volunteers who make the museum a special place to visit. Some days she is playing her harp at a special event, some days she is giving tours, other days she is researching history for our guests! We could not run the museum without her! - Thank you Cate, 🎠❤️🎠 Morgan.

We had such a fun time at The Rose Kennedy Greenway Carousel in Boston today. This Contemporary Carousel was designed and installed in 2013 by artist Jeff Briggs and features animals, land, air, and sea found around the city of Boston. We hope to plan another bus trip to more carousels soon! Visit the museum to see our Exhibit of Jeff’s work and how the Greenway Carousel came to be…

The New England Carousel Museum has joyfully operated the Bushnell Park Carousel for the City of Hartford since 1998. With the rise of the COVID-19 Pandemic the Museum, a non profit organization was forced to evaluate and re adjust our operations models. Unfortunately, after much consideration, this year the Museum was not in a position to continue with our partnership with the City of Hartford. As always, we continue to fully support the Bushnell Park Carousel, the City of Hartford, and all operating carousels across the state and the country. We are delighted that the Bushnell Park Foundation has opened the Carousel and we look forward to to supporting The Bushnell Park Carousel operations in the future.

The Museum will be closed Sunday & Monday August 22, 23 in preparation for Hurricane Henri. Please stay safe.

We were hoping to get to the museum when headed to Boston in April for our daughter’s graduation. Alas , that won’t happen, but in the meantime, this will keep me busy.
Can anyone comment of my photos. I acquired this wooden bench about 18 years ago from a women whose children worked during the summer months at Riverside's Crescent Park. I am 100% certain this was one of (I believe) 8 benches that graced the interior of the structure. I doubt any others have survived. The last picture shows a same image in the background. It is structurally sound and coated in old black paint. Could this bench have been made in the Looff workshop that was located within the park? Could they be any way of telling (such as makers mark?). Really curious and thought viewers to the site might have more concrete information to share.
Thought you might like to see this.
Congratulations!
Totally dedicated to maintaining the memory of forgotten carousel horse artists and their art.
You have to see to believe this place.
Anders is home!! New spot where he will be seen. As soon as you walk in the front door. The brass completes him!!
