Photos from Friends of Steele Farm's post
The Friends were founded to help manage Steele Farm, a municipal property with special historical, conservation & recreational qualities.
Steele Farm, known historically as the Levi Wetherbee Farm, was purchased in 1994 by the Town as a municipal property. The farm itself dates back to the eighteenth century yet has retained its landscape character over the years. This character was recognized by the Town and by its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Additionally, a conservation and historical preservation restriction was placed on the property in 2006, administered by the Trustees of Reservations and the Boxborough Historical Society, to preserve its character and uses. The property is managed for the Town by an appointed Steele Farm Advisory Committee as assisted by the “Friends”.
Mission: Assist the Steele Farm Advisory Committee in maintaining the property and celebrating its special nature.

Following the Senate override of the Governor's veto, this puts this funding another step closer.
I voted with the House of Representatives this week to override more of Governor Baker's budget vetoes. The House voted to restore funding to many local items, including:
• Crosstown Connect's Acton & Maynard Shuttle for seniors and people with disabilities
• The restoration of the historic Levi Wetherbee Farm in Boxborough
• The Johnny Appleseed Trail Association in North-Central Massachusetts
New hope for this money from the Commonwealth.
UPDATE - State Senate has voted to override Gov. Baker's spring veto of the Steele Farm stablization expenditure http://boxborough.wickedlocal.com/news/20171006/funds-for-levi-wetherbee-refit-not-dead
The Boxborough Historical Society is pleased to announce with gratitude a generous grant of $25,000 from the Linn Foundation for the preservation of the 1784 Wetherbee/Steele farmhouse. ATTENTION: STEELE FARM USE PROPOSAL
The Steele Farm Committee is asking the Conservation Commission, the Steele Farm committee and the Selectmen to consider a change to the present management to prohibit horses from trails in the Beaver Brook conservation parcel from December 1 to April 30 each year. That policy should also apply to Steele Farm, the Community Garden, and the Picnic Street Trust properties.
If you support it or have anything you would like to say about it we urge you to attend the ConsCom meeting on 12/21/16 at 7:45PM or email comments to [email protected].

Last night after a presentation of the Boxborough Historical Society's proposed 2-year Capital Campaign to raise $100,000 to preserve and maintain the 1784 Levi Wetherbee (Steele) Farmhouse, the Selectmen voted unanimously to approve going forward with the campaign.
Thanks for the advice and planning of the ad hoc Capital Campaign committee (Owen Neville, Cheryl Mahoney, John Fallon, Ed Whitcomb, and Jeanne Kangas, with input from Lisa St Amand), who assisted in preparing the material delivered to the Selectmen.
