Tonight in Los Angeles! Join us from 6-8:30pm for the opening reception of Place Setting, featuring Luke Forsyth, Katharine Konietzko, Tara Lewis, Thomas Martinez Pilnik, and Amanda Rowan.

Place Setting illustrates five unique perspectives on collaboration with local landscapes, cultural memories, and figures; each piece in the exhibition takes the viewer to a specific setting reminiscent of Los Angeles, its surrounding scenery, and the industries that dominate this major world stage. A double entendre, Place Setting also nods to the dinner party, an intimate form of community engagement that strengthens connections, and more recently, has provided a source of comforting interactions in our life after the pandemic.

Please join us on Friday, July 12th from 6-8 pm for the Artist Reception of our current solo exhibition, “One Eye Closed." Visitors will get the unique opportunity to meet .woodbury and discuss her new paintings on view in Boston. These paintings emerged from research undertaken during the creation of Revised Edition, her renowned series of sumi ink portraits. In its fourth year, the inks currently number nearly 200. When every page of the History of Art is overpainted with the face of a woman artist, the series will total over 600, making visible a long history of artists who have been overlooked and undervalued.

Thrilled to introduce Tara Lewis () who will have new paintings on view in our next show in Los Angeles! Tara Lewis’ paintings challenge conventional portraiture with a focus on female agency and the contemporary complexities of femininity. Exploring cultural anthropology, individuality, and personhood, the work weaves a fresh narrative that delves into self-awareness, irreverence, and satirical punch, informed by critical reflections on expectations and stereotypes associated with gender roles. These figurative paintings redefine cultural icons, drawing inspiration from a sustained exploration of childhood memories associated with familiar characters in cartoons, TV shows, and coming-of-age movies.

Now on view in Boston, Coral Woodbury (.woodbury )in “One Eye Closed”. A solo exhibition of new artwork by Coral Woodbury. Known internationally for her series of ink portraits of women artists portrayed on pages torn from exclusionary art histories, her recent oil paintings remix 500 years of Western art history, opening the book wider on stories of women in art. The show’s title suggests that our half-blind view of history lacks depth, color, and texture. The exhibition ranges from paintings inspired by 17th century Dutch florals, a theme deemed “feminine” and thus devalued, to a scene of a 19th century women’s sculpture class featuring a cow rather than a n**e model, which women were forbidden from viewing.

Join us in Boston on Friday, June 7th from 6-8 pm for the opportunity to meet Wilhelm Neusser and discuss his solo exhibition, Future Perfect Tense. Neusser’s powerful suite of paintings considers how our future selves – and generations to follow – will see and understand our actions. The prospect of the future holds both a promise and a threat – the perfect and the tense.

Blazing the trail. Ascending a rugged mountain ridge, depicts a group of unaccompanied children heading deeper into the nocturnal alpine landscape. Their bright yellow vests are glowing in the dark, contrasting the moody blues of their surroundings. “How did they get there and where are the chaperones?” questions the viewer, adopting themselves the role of the concerned caretaker. With the landscape reading as a fictional world created by the artist, there is an additional sense of a fairy tale unfolding before us: the future generation embarking on their next adventure, heroically overcoming the obstacles of a harsh environment. Neusser’s lushly textured canvas presents a metaphor for our own unknown future, holding both a promise and a threat. Swipe for additional images of details and earlier stages in the making of this impressive painting.

The artist creates humorous tableaus of mothers often frozen mid chore. In “Ready” the subject’s arms are filled with ketchup, a plant, toys, tape, play-dog, Peppa Pig, snacks, markers, an iPhone, a shell, sneakers, and the list goes on and on. Will it be enough for her to be ready for the day ahead? The hour ahead?

Our Story

Abigail Ogilvy Gallery exhibits contemporary art with a heavy emphasis on concept driven artwork by emerging to mid career artists located across the country. The gallery primarily focuses on paintings, but also exhibits a range of other media including photography, sculpture, mixed media, digital prints, drawings and much more. AOG aims to expand the Boston art scene by seeking out strong artists who have yet to be recognized or show in the area. Since opening in 2015, the gallery has hosted over 30 exhibitions. Owner Abigail Ryan and Director Allyson Boli are dedicated to developing each artists' career, while acting as an accessible platform for the appreciation and promotion of contemporary art in Boston. Abigail Ryan, the owner of Abigail Ogilvy Gallery, graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Art History, and later continued her arts studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York City. Ogilvy works to educate and activate Boston’s arts community. She has been recognized by Mayor Martin J. Walsh as a leader in Boston under his SPARK council, she also serves on the Board of Directors at Artists for Humanity as well as the 2018 Artcetera Committee. Ogilvy was previously on the Massachusetts State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Steering Committee at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In addition to her passion for the arts, Abigail coaches middle school lacrosse and field hockey.

Allyson Boli, the Director of Abigail Ogilvy Gallery, graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A in Art History and minor in Business Administration. Prior to joining the team at AOG, she worked in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as the Development Assistant for Events. Boli’s background in art history was enhanced by time she spent abroad in Florence giving tours of the art and architecture in the Duomo, and two summers working at a contemporary art gallery on Nantucket. Most recently Ally curated a group show called Domestic Memory which was reviewed by Art New England. She is currently a Museum Council member at the Museum of Fine Arts and recently juried an art exhibition at the Providence Art Club. In her spare time, Boli volunteers at Dana Farber Cancer Institute as an ambassador and enjoys visiting her family on Cape Cod.
