Our Sips for the Society online silent auction is officially up and running, and we have just added some incredible new items you will definitely want to check out. Many of the baskets and jewelry will be on display at our Sips for the Society event.

From unique local history pieces to fantastic family experiences, self-care baskets, and dining packages, there is truly something for everyone. Bidding on these items is a wonderful way to support a local nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization while scoring some spectacular finds for yourself or your holiday gift list.

Every single dollar raised goes directly toward the vital maintenance, renovation, and restoration of the three historic buildings in our care, helping us keep our community's history alive.

• No Shipping: All items must be picked up in person.

Looking for a unique piece of local history? Bid now on this framed 1890 Blue Springs “Chuckhole Patrol” photograph in our online silent auction!
This compelling 8x10 print is matted and beautifully presented in a classic 11x14 frame. It offers a fascinating look back at the gritty reality of early community upkeep, documenting a large crew of local men and their horse-drawn team dedicated to keeping the town's dirt streets passable.
As they pause along downtown Main Street, you can see two landmark wooden structures in the background: Mrs. Bethurum’s millinery shop and the Jones barber shop. Both of these buildings burned down in 1915 and were later replaced with brick structures, making this image an extraordinary and rare window into the late 19th-century foundation of Blue Springs. It is a stellar addition for local historians, residents, or collectors.

Remembering Mary Potter

The Blue Springs Historical Society is deeply saddened by the loss of our longtime member, Mary Potter. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.

Mary dedicated many years to the Blue Springs Historical Society, serving as a past president and taking on numerous other roles in support of our mission to preserve and share our community’s history.

One of her most significant contributions was her instrumental role in the effort to save and relocate the 1926 Chicago & Alton Depot. Thanks in part to the dedication and hard work of Mary and others who recognized its historical importance, this beloved landmark was preserved and is now one of our museums.

Mary’s commitment to preserving Blue Springs history has left a lasting legacy that will continue to be appreciated by generations to come. Her contributions to our organization and our community will not be forgotten.

We are grateful for the time, passion, and dedication she gave to the Blue Springs Historical Society. She will be greatly missed.

Please join us in keeping Mary’s family and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Mary. Thank you for helping preserve the history that belongs to all of us.

Did you know that the Blue Springs Historical Society is a fully independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization? Unlike many historical groups, we do not receive ongoing financial funding from the state of Missouri or the city of Blue Springs. Everything we do is completely funded by community members like you.

We also face a unique challenge: unlike most local historical societies that care for just one single property, we have THREE historic buildings in our care! Maintaining and restoring three distinct physical structures comes with extreme, ongoing costs. Sips for the Society is one of the primary ways we raise the vital funds needed to protect, repair, and keep these spaces open to the public.
