California’s creative economy is at an inflection point — and the numbers tell a more interesting story than the headlines.

Employment in the sector contracted 2.9% last year. But core creative professionals actually grew 2.1% in 2025. These workers earn an average of $249,214 a year and power a “California premium”: our state holds one in five creative jobs in the U.S. yet captures nearly a third of the wages.

In the new digital issue of ACCA JOURNAL, we explore this rebalancing with insights from California State Treasurer Fiona Ma — a CPA who has long argued that culture isn’t a luxury. It’s an investment.

Raised by a high school art teacher, Ma understands that creativity fuels prosperity. Through the California Creative Finance Network and her long advocacy for the Film and Television Tax Credit, she has worked to keep capital flowing to the people who give California its competitive edge.

AI is changing tasks, not eliminating the need for human imagination. The real question is whether we will continue to invest in the dreamers whose ideas shape tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who showed up for our pre-Comic-Con showcase!

Honored to share a milestone for ACCA Fine Arts.

California State Treasurer Hon. Fiona Ma, CPA has officially recognized ACCA Fine Arts' exhibition "Portals and Depth" with a Certificate of Recognition for its dedication to advancing contemporary art through innovative exhibitions, editorial excellence, and cross-cultural collaboration.

Held July 21-26, 2026 at E2Art Gallery in Los Angeles as a sophisticated prelude to San Diego Comic-Con, "Portals and Depth" explored dimension, light, and perception.

Curated by me and Maya Ito, the exhibition featured:
Veru Narula – "Underwater Art Retreat" – immersive canvases examining the movement of light through water to the ocean floor.

Fahad Alhumaid – "Crystal Portals" – multi-dimensional photography and resin works layering pop culture into portals of depth.

Following its LA run, a special feature piece from the exhibition was presented live at San Diego Comic-Con – Booth #1735.

Thank you to Treasurer Ma, our visionary artists, and the distinguished guests who joined our July 21 red-carpet reception, including acclaimed art critic Peter Frank, actor John Savage, and many cultural and entertainment leaders. Special presentation: The Art of Jim Fletcher – The Real Superheroes of Beverly Hills AR experience.

ACCA Fine Arts was founded in 2012 by Carlos Benitez, Creative Director, art dealer and entrepreneur known for representing works from Jean-Michel Basquiat to "The World's Most Valuable Chess Set." Co-Founder, CEO & Editor-in-Chief Maya Ito continues to bridge Eastern and Western perspectives through art, media, and international engagement.
