Valentine’s Day Traditions in Boston is a fun and interesting way to recall the holiday from the exchange of valentine cards in school to the cards, candy and flowers we sent, or received, as adults to our love interest. From Ancient Rome with the pagan festival of Lupercalia to the worldwide celebration of the holiday, we revel in its history and evolution through the centuries as a day of love. Today, Esther Allen Howland is honored with the moniker
ā€œMother of the American Valentine,ā€ with many citing her small card factory as the start of a multi-million-dollar industry. Beginning in 2001, the Greeting Card Association has annually given the ā€œEsther Howland Award for a Greeting Card Visionaryā€ and they estimate that 200 million valentines are sent each year in the United States.

Antique French chairs newly upholstered in Belgian linen … these were shipped the US from a French estate and kept in climate controlled storage - they have pegged construction and are the last pair I have from this estate … I’ve enjoyed reupholstering them .. saw all the work from the atleast 2 previous upholsterers who were obviously very skilled … all the original horsehair has been refurbished and the edge roll was handmade and hand stitched … I appreciate the quality workmanship and am honored to add my own hand to these beautiful chairs - they will be accompanying me to the Osterville Historical Museum show this week - Thursday Aug 19th … (and the vintage fabric pillows too ) hope to see you there !
