With just two weeks left in our 2026 season, now is the time to visit the Abbe Museum! Engage with Wabanaki perspectives on America's 250th through In the Shadow of the Eagle, which closes on Saturday, October 31. Experience Holding the Light: Contemporary Wabanaki Photography before it travels this winter to the Portland Museum of Art. See a fitting tribute to Penobscot hero Charles Norman Shay, and wrap yourself in the stunning sound and imagery of Maya Attean's Skinuwihkuk (Native Land) in our Circle of Four Directions.

Our season ends October 31, 2026. The Abbe is open Monday - Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm.

Today at the Abbe Museum we are celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day with special guests Grammy-winner Ty Defoe (Ojibwe + Oneida)with All My Relations Collective, and Passamaquoddy Storyteller Minquansis Sapiel. We're open till 5 pm, and admission is pay-what-you-can. Final performance at 2 pm.

Never too early to Holiday Shop!

The Abbe Museum Shop will remain open through October 31 (Monday - Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm)

We offer a variety of unique, Native-made gifts at all price points. If you can't visit us in Bar Harbor, you can shop online year-round at https://shop.abbemuseum.org where new items will be added even after the in-person season closes.

Good news from Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness and Maine Public

"MaineCare has received federal approval to reimburse traditional Indigenous healthcare practices.

Lisa Sockabasin, the co-CEO of Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness, said the nonprofit already offers smudging, sweat lodge, and talking circle ceremonies. She said being able to bill for these services will help the center expand its offerings, and the decision itself offers healing."

Join us at the Abbe for Indigenous Peoples' Day - Monday, October 12, 2026.

Pay-what-you-can admission. Open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Presentations at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm featuring special guests Grammy Award Winner Defoe (Ojibwe + Oneida), and Passamaquoddy Storyteller @ Minquansis Sapiel. (Presenting together, both times)
