AREA 405

AREA 405 Located in our 170 year old artist owed warehouse, AREA 405 has been dedicated to presenting the Arts and supporting our community for over 15 years.

Located in a 160 year-old artist-owned warehouse within Baltimore's Station North Arts and Entertainment District, AREA 405 is committed to showcasing and strengthening the vitality of the arts community within Baltimore. Our 66,000 square feet warehouse at 405 East Oliver Street provides a particular setting for exhibitions as well as studio space for the 40+ artists who work here (Oliver Street Studios). Our building's long history as a brewery, industrial equipment maker and as a window blind manufacturer has inspired both exhibitors and performers over the past 13+ years. AREA 405's mission is to produce, present and promote arts and cultural programming by offering a venue for artists from Baltimore and beyond. Collaborating with art, cultural and community organizations throughout the region, AREA 405 has hosted scores of events featuring thousands of artists and tens of thousands of visitors since opening its doors in 2003. Area 405 supports the visual arts, dance, theatre, film and more.

Join us tonight, Friday May 31, for the closing of "A Passing Scene, When people face emptiness", curated by Minzi Li. It is a way to say goodbye to AREA 405 as we take a break from programming for a little while.
For 16+ years, we have run on volunteer power, not as a not for profit, but as a passionate and loving commitment to our community, our neighborhood, and our city.

The Windup Space is closing on June 1

Russell, We are grateful to have had you and the whole Wind Up team as neighbors and friends. We know what doing this work takes and it comes from the heart. Thank you for being here for our community. Good luck with your future endeavors. xoxo.

More than any other space in Station North--and the whole city, really--The Windup Space catered to just about every genre of music, and the rest of its schedule was even more varied.

This Saturday, take COFFEE TABLES!
Build a solid butcher block style coffee table using reclaimed lumber and hairpin legs. Design it simple and sleek, mill down the lumber, and laminate it together. Then rout, sand, finish, and attach the legs. This versatile process is applicable to many other woodworking projects from smaller cutting boards to larger table tops.

Max table size is 20" x 48". Measure your room or current coffee table beforehand to get a sense for what will fit best!

New Day Campaign

We are exceptionally proud of our friend, Peter Bruun and look forward to working with him on an upcoming project, 1000 Love Letters, beginning January 2019

We are honored to have had Peter Bruun included as one of ten highlighted participants during Michael Bloomberg's keynote on the opioid crisis at the first ever Bloomberg American Health Summit, part of the Bloomberg American Health Initiative at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

The purpose of the moment was to highlight the many different allies doing work before the opioid crisis, and to emphasize the importance of all working together. Mr. Bloomberg took the occasion to announce a new $50,000,000 campaign to empower state and local stakeholders, activists, and advocates, starting with Pennsylvania.

Peter's brief remarks (video below) include referencing the New Day Campaign, and a personal sharing on what drives his passion for this work.

Reflecting on the moment, Peter notes, "I know it's really not just my story that matters. There are a thousand stories - people of all ages, education, religion, political predisposition, and race have stories - I am a huge admirer of the work Bloomberg is doing, but wish we could have had more of that diversity on stage with us, especially with race. Our ten stories are true, but that further inclusion would have conveyed a more complete and truer story. We are ALL affected."

Indeed: we are all affected, and we are all part of the solution.
