UPCOMING GREEK ANCESTRY CONFERENCE – LIVE-STREAMED FREE Dear HHMM friend, We know you are interested in your Greek ancestry just by virtue of your interest in the Hellenic Heritage Museum of Maryland. As part of our mission to connect with our history, we want to alert you to an exciting opportunity we believe will be of great interest to many in our community. Two organizations, Greek Ancestry and the Hellenic Genealogy Geek, are teaming up to present a free, on-line International Greek Ancestry Conference Jan. 29-31. The event will be live-streamed on YouTube beginning Friday evening at 8 pm. In observance of the bicentennial of the war that established modern Greece, “Freedom or Death: The 1821 Revolution” will kick off Saturday’s presentations when Professor Emeritus Roderick Beaton of Kings College, London, discusses how our ancestors experienced that epochal event. Dr. Beaton, who holds a Ph.D. from Cambridge University, was Koraes Professor of Modern Greek and Byzantine History, Language and Literature at Kings for 30 years. Other sessions on Saturday and Sunday will focus on how to find village records, 19th Century village life, early migration, the Ottoman Greeks of the United States Project, and how to interpret DNA ancestry tests among other topics. For full details, click here: https://greekancestry.net/conference/ For the schedule, click here: https://greekancestry.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Final-Conference-Schedule.jpg You can choose whether to watch the entire event or pick sessions you are particularly interested in. We at HHMM look forward to the time when we will again be able to sponsor live cultural events that have proved so popular in the past. In the meantime, we are happy to connect you to such a promising, online event. With best wishes for the New Year, The Hellenic Heritage Museum of Maryland
