Art comes in many forms - crochet & knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, architecture, fashion design, even music, theater and dance. Big murals on buildings or little doodles on 4x6 index cards. It’s all art.
This brings me to today’s “Art of the Day” post. Here are these fun little decorated notecards that, when put together in a photo album with dozens of other notes, became a beautiful Christmas gift to my partner!
Did you know about this project opportunity? Until a classmate of mine shared that she was working on this adorable, sentimental project for her significant other, I hadn’t either! (Thanks, again Tarah ♥️ It remains the best gift I have ever given him!)
There are tons of groups you can join on Facebook (and likely other social platforms) where you can receive personalized notes/photos from people living in other cities, states, and even countries, in exchange for a note/photo from you! You can even request what you would like your note to say, and they will likely request theirs to be personalized as well! Normally, people like the pictures of their notes to be taken in front of something that represents your community or culture, such as this note that is in front of a beautiful Frida Kahlo portrait. For the notes I sent to people, I took photos in front of the Abraham Lincoln statue at the Capitol Building downtown, or at Lincoln’s new Salem!
In late 2020, I spent hours upon hours messaging people in these Facebook groups, drawing/writing personalized notes, traveling back and forth and taking photos of them, and keeping a detailed list of what locations I had and what locations I still needed. My initial goal was to just obtain notes from all 50 states (I believe I missed one, possibly two) but I actually ended up with quite a few awesome countries!
It was a seriously fun project and took around two to three months to complete.
If you are interested, you can search in FB groups for “Love notes across the USA” or “Love notes exchange across the world” and several should pop up. It is a really fun way to create some simple notecard art & make a beautiful gift for someone you love, while also getting to interact with people from all over the world!
I added a sped up video of the full album ♥️ The attached photos are some of my favorite notes from outside of the US that I received 😊 (Well, one of the photos is in the US - taken UNDERWATER during an old middle school friend’s snorkeling adventure in Hawaii! She lived there for a few years while training/becoming a pilot! How cool?)
What do you think? Is this something you could see yourself doing? If you do, feel free to reach out to me and I can give you some tips/advice on how to stay organized, and I can even show you one or two of the groups that I used!
✌🏻♥️ 🎨
