Jefferson Baroque Orchestra We specialize in historically informed performance to present the music of the 17th & 18th centuries as it was presented then: something fresh and new.

A theoritical "time machine" for the re-creation of our 17th/18th century European musical heritage.

The grand finale at both of our concerts this weekend will feature the pipe organs that are installed in St. Mark's Episcopal in Medford, and First United Methodist in Ashland.

St. Mark's Episcopal Pipe Organ: Built by Richard Bond of Bond Organ Builders, Portland, and installed in 1992. Opus No. 22 has 19 ranks, two keyboards, and a pedalboard. Features a mechanical action with copper-flamed façade pipes and a case made of madrone wood. Margaret Evans will perform Buxtehude's Praeludium in F-sharp Minor, BuxWV 146 on this incredible instrument on Saturday!

First United Methodist Church Pipe Organ: Reuter pipe organ installed in 1929 with pipes added in 1989 and polished brass Fanfare Trumpet added in 2004. Design follows the contemporary organ-building trends of the early 20th c. Adam Kukuk will play Zipoli's Pastorale and All’ Offertorio from Sonate d'Intavolatura per Organo e Cimbalo Op.1 on this magnificent instrument on Sunday!

In our final concert of the season you will hear this lovely clavichord. It was likely built from a Zuckerman kit by JBO's founder, Jim Rich, around 1997. This is a fretted clavichord, meaning two or more keys share one set of strings. It is the quietest of all instruments but also the most sensitive to touch due to the lack of any elaborate mechanical action between the player and the string. Abigail Mace will perform works by Bach and Weckmann on this fine instrument May 2 (St. Mark's, Medford) and 3 (First United Methodist, Ashland) at 3 p.m.!

The rarely-heard ottavino is also featured on our upcoming concerts May 2 & 3! This instrument was built by Jack Peters in Seattle in 2000 and is currently owned by George Simmons in Ashland. The ottavino is a piccolo harpsichord, tuned an octave higher than standard spinets. It was popular in Italy from the 16th-18th centuries due to its portability. Abigail Mace will perform Martin Peerson's "The Primerose" from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book and Claudio Merulo's Toccata Quinta from Toccate d’intavolatura d’organo, Libro 1 on this fascinating instrument.
