This past few weeks I have been busy working on the fabric install on a clients Composite Cub project. Also took a week off because my dad and his girlfriend came in town for a visit. Back to work today (Falcon 20) maintenance. Then back to fabric work. I'm hoping to get back to the Birddog and P-63 work next week.

This is just crap!!! Just because one person doesn't like plane noise.

For more than half a century, there hasn’t been a problem. So why has an unholy row broken out now between a council and locals? #9ACA

Today we honor or heroes that started this day 75 years ago going into battle. Both of my Grandfathers were in the Military during WWII. My father's dad was U.S. Navy in the Pacific and my moms dad was U.S. Army in Europe. Such brave and strong men.

A few days ago Scott Mikle contacted me to let me know that he had a emergency landing gear crank handle for a P-39 or P-63. He purchased it from a gentlemen at a garage sale who's father was a WWII aviation mechanic. At some point someone had taken out the aircraft gear spline and returned it back to the ratchet square head. The really cool part is that this ratchet handle was made by Snap-On tools during the war. Now this handle is making a full circle from being taken out of a P-39/P-63 and now is going back into a P-63.

This is what Memorial Day weekend and Memorial Day is all about. It's remembrance of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives serving and fighting for our great country. It's NOT about barbecues, camping, parties, and store sales. Til Valhalla to ALL the Men and Women who paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives for us to be able to be “Free."

So this happened yesterday. I was down at the Downtown Macon Airport in Georgia disassembling a Beech 18. A gentleman came out of his hangar to see what was going on. As we talked I mentioned the P-63 project. He said ( wait a minute I have something to show you) he came back out of his hangar with this NOS P-63 spinner. My jaw dropped! We made a deal for it and now it is one more part closer to a flying P-63. What a day!!!

Some progress on the P-63 project this week. I removed the RH aileron and will start making a fixture to rebuild it in. Matched up the color for the zinc chromate. Started the restoration and fabrication process of the LH rudder cable pulley assy. Also found what's left of the Russian star on the bottom side of the RH wing.

Today I set out the larger parts of the P-63 to see what's there. It looks like it's mostly the wings and some of the center section. The fuselage is in many smaller pieces and not much of it is left which I left in the hangar.

I want to give a big THANK YOU to Patrick Mihalek and everyone at The Warbirds of Glory Museum for giving me the chance to purchase this P-63 project and helping me load it up. Their B-25 project Sandbar Mitchell is looking awesome. The workmanship is top notch and amazing. I look forward to flying the P-63 on the wing of their B-25 someday.

A couple of weeks ago I went to Hawaii to inspect and work on the paperwork for a DC3 to be donated to The Fourrier Foundation. It has been decided to ship this DC3 to San Antonio TX for restoration. The Fourrier Foundation is asking for help to get this done. I will be part of the group that will go back to disassemble the DC3 and ready it for shipping. A shipping company has donated half of the cost to help out but it will have to be done within the next few months. There is a GoFundMe page set up to help them out with this. If you can please donate something that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!

It's finally happening. We've been working on this since October of 2018, but now the paperwork is signed. The Goal of this GoFundMe, is to bring "Hula Girl", a former U.S. Navy Super DC-3 (google R4D8) from its current location in Hawaii to a full service Aviation Repair station in San Antonio...

It is official. The paperwork has been done and the DC-3 is now with The Fourrier Foundation. I want to give my many THANKS to everyone at Kamaka Air Inc for their hospitality and them putting up with me and my passion for these birds. The next step is making the plans to return and start disassembling the plane for shipping it back to the States. This will be a big endeavor and will take help from many sources. The Foundation will be doing fundraising and asking for help with getting her back to the States and for the restoration.

I am working with Sylvain at Air-Pictures.fr to make a cartoon of 53-7996 when she is finished. During out messages back and forth he asked me for a picture of it now. I sent him one and about an hour or so he sent this back. I almost fell down laughing.

Since my last update I have started fabricating 5 B-17 aileron trim tab assemblies. Been working on rudder pedals and firewall parts for the Birddog. Some parts have arrived for the P-63 project. I also have received a copy of the P-63 blueprints ( Big thanks to The Dixie Wing Museum and Bob Heath) so I have fabricated the first small P-63 part.

Today I drove over to Peachtree City GA to pick up some materials at Aircraft Spruce. I also stopped at the CAF Dixie Wing Museum so I could take a bunch of pictures of their P-63. What a beautiful aircraft. I was able to get into the cockpit to see how it feels. I thought with me being over 6ft tall that I might not fit. LOL

Exciting news! I have purchased the remains of Bell P-63A-10 Kingcobra 42-70190. I hope to pick it up in March. The history is short for this Warbird. It left the factory in New York to head to Russia as a lend lease aircraft. In route it ended up in Nome Alaska where it never left. It was pulled out of a landfill there. Now it will be coming to Project Warbird for rebuild to flying condition. I will share pictures when I pick it up.

[XP-82 EXCLUSIVE VIDEO] - Today marked the “official” first flight of Tom Reilly’s XP-82 Twin Mustang following a decade-long restoration effort. According to all involved, it went magnificently.... The world now has an airworthy Twin Mustang for the first time in many decades! Bravo to Tom Reilly and his entire restoration team, and to Walter Soplata who had the foresight to save this remarkable prototype when no one else would!

Back in April of last year I helped a client sell a A-4 Skyhawk cockpit project. The new owner has sent me an up-date on the cockpit and it is amazing. I love to see a piece of our aviation history not only being saved but also being brought back to its glory. Great job Don.

Since the holidays ended I have been getting back into the swing of things. I have the RH elevator for the Stearman sprayed through silver and I have started cleaning and alodining wing hardware. I have made a big step for the L-19 Birddog projects this week. I made a trip up to Long Island and picked up one complete and enough parts to start a second engine. I want to thank Ron DeLalio for helping out with the engines. They are a big step forward to getting the Birddogs back in the air.

Here at Project Warbird I would like to say Happy New year. I'm hoping for clear skies and smooth air. No AOG's and everyone finds that one part they need to finish their projects.
