I have been getting some work done on Birddog 11020 this week. Working on the front rudder pedal assys I found that one of the rudder pedal Bars is cracked. I'm happy that I found it but disappointed that it is there. Everyone really needs to keep a look out for this. It is hard to see but if it failed during flight you would be screwed.

Today I took a hike with Mike Clary (from The Southern FAC Museum) and his son to a B-25 crash site in Walhalla South Carolina. It is a short hike off the road but not much of any trail. There is a memorial marker at the road and a sign at the crash site. There is nothing left of the B-25 but it is a beautiful place to visit.

Today there was a small reunion in the shop. I received a brick from the Bell Aircraft factory at 2050 Elmwood Ave in Buffalo NY. Unfortunately the factory was demolished last year but this brick was saved. I want to thank Carl for collecting, cleaning and shipping it down so that it can be put with the P-63 project.

I just got back from Florida picking up this rear canopy section for the P-63. I want to Thank Mike McCollum for finding it and contacting me. It was brought home by a WWII Veteran after the war from a base in Florida. He put it in his shed and it stayed there till about a week ago. After he passed, his son decided to sell it and some other parts. It is in excellent condition.

Today Boy Scout troop 234 paid a visit to the hangar. I had a great time teaching them about the P-63 and the other projects. I showed them the steps for making one of the B-17 elevator ribs. It's always great to be able to teach and inspire the next generation. I hope they will want to save our aviation history in the future.

Great news for the P-63 project. I have been given the opportunity to get this fuselage section from The Wings Museum in The UK. This will be a big leap forward in getting 42-70190 back in the air. Now it's time to start some fund raising to get it here.

Looking through a 1941 Lockheed magazine I have this morning. It's very interesting to see the advertisements in it. You can see witch companies made parts for the aircraft outside of the main aircraft builders. I see people asking about the seats alot. They want to know which aircraft they go to and who made them. Here is an ad from one of the seat companies. Pretty cool!

HD Historic Archival Stock Footage WWII - Alaska Russia Sky Route

Today marks the 75th anniversary of Bell P-63 42-70190 crash. On December 24th 1944 Major Nikolai M. Senchenko USSR was flying P-63 42-70190 from Fairbanks to Nome Alaska. He was in a group of 6 P-63’s with a B-25 bomber in the lead. Major Sencheko was one of the Russian pilots that flew lend lease aircraft from Alaska to Russia during WWII. When they arrived at the Nome airdrome to land, they encountered a snow storm that caused them to have no visibility to land. The group turned and headed to the reserve airdrome at Galena. A short time later a report came in that P-63 N-190 had crashed North of Nome airdrome. Unfortunately Major Sencheko lost spatial position of the plane and ran into the ground and became the 10th Russian pilot to perish in Alaska. Major Nikolai M. Sencheko was buried in the village of Uel’Kal’ on the Chukotsky Peninsula.
It is an honor to be the one rebuilding this aircraft back to flying condition and to be able to Honor Major Nikolai M. Sencheko for his sacrifice for his country and family.

This past week I was able to strip the 1943 Ford GPW down to the frame. Now it needs to be cleaned, sandblasted and I will do the repairs needed to it. I also was able to do some work on P-63 castings. Cleaned, NTD tested, alodine, and zinc chromate primer applied.

The past couple days I have been working on making a fixture for building up the Center section for the P-63 (42-70190) project. I have it built up now to hold the rear center section spar and as time goes I will add the forward spar mount. I test fitted the spar wing attach mounts and they fit perfect. One interesting thing that I noticed when I was removing the hardware out of these mounts is green paint used as torque markings. I will be putting that back on when I finish building up the spar.

A little update on what's going on at the shop. I have finished the first elevator for B-17 Liberty Belle and have started the other one. I did get a chance to do some work on the Forestry Birddog throttle quadrant. I also have started removing parts from the P-63 center section rear spar. The plan is to start with rebuilding this spar first. When I removed some of the skin pieces I found some markings from one of the factory workers. So Cool.

Good morning! There's a P-39 landing gear motor for sale at Antique Aircraft Parts Exchange.
I have a question. How many of the 50 Bell P-59B Airacomets are still surviving and if so are any in flying condition?
RIP soldiers. Thank you for your sacrifice for America and the South Korean people.
May not be the place, but just throwing this out there... couple of weeks ago I was on St. George Island, Fla (Apalachicola) and I swear had a B17 do a flyover entire length of the island... anybody know what that was about??
