Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps

Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps The Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a unit of local medical and non-medical volunteers who are ready to respond to public health emergencies and support public health emergency preparedness across Alexandria.

In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, thousands of Americans volunteered their skills and talents to assist the community. Many more asked, “What can I do to help?” The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) was established in 2002 as a national network of volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities. The MRC network is made up of 987 community-based units and almost 200,000 volunteers located throughout the United States and its territories.

September 21 & 22 - Alexandria Health Department Medical Reserve Corps is hosting a FREE PEDIATRIC DISASTER RESPONSE AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS Training offered by Texas A & M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) for all MRC volunteers in Northern Region.
The 2010 report by the National Commission on Children and Disasters identified a training gap for emergency responders, first receivers, and emergency management personnel that reduced their effectiveness in responding to pediatric patients and their unique needs/considerations. This course addresses pediatric emergency planning and medical response considerations through a combination of lectures, small group exercises, and a table-top exercise.
By registering for the course, participants must commit to both days of training. There are no pre-requisites but each participant must have a FEMA SID. Continuing Education Credits available.
